Arc 33The War Fortress and the Novel
Theus and Castel developed new weapons as Nora and Gale Squad struck a Holy See War Fortress, while the conflict grew more dangerous and Nini tested whether her novels could alter reality. The arc left Nini turning toward literate opponents of the Holy See and Chloe beginning to teach Machine Souls at Castel’s artillery factory.
- Theus confronted his missing memories and chose to keep fighting for Castel, while Ignati and Nora identified Lina’s mass-corpse ritual as an attempt to summon a god.
- Nora returned to the front in a self-propelled artillery vehicle, and Galahad’s Gale Squad destroyed a War Fortress by striking its main cannon and triggering an explosion.
- Nora was badly burned, the battle between Tis and the Holy See intensified, and Theus expanded Castel’s forces while preparing protective suits and gas masks.
- Monica’s imagined account of a failed life as Theus led him to question Nini, who explained that her stories could shape readers’ perceptions through Cognitive Interference.
- Theus authorized a monitored island test of Nini’s method, and later gave Zoe permission to apply to the novel project as the front grew calmer and Blood Port expanded.
- Lynn witnessed the Holy See’s brutal treatment of believers, refugees, and workers, then learned that Luke had been chosen to become a believer.
- Nini abandoned her plan to reach the Holy See’s largely illiterate population and turned to literate opponents, while Theus assigned Chloe to teach artillery Machine Souls to read.
