Background / History
Lin Mu was originally a man from Earth. After being struck by a meteor, he was reborn in a parallel-world Japanese orphanage, Sunshine Home, as Linmu Fujimiya. He discovered that he possessed a set of psychic abilities resembling those of Saiki Kusuo, then spent his orphanage years learning to control them. 1 6
He entered Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School after preparing an admission record aided in part by his powers. He chose the school chiefly for its enclosed management and reputation as a place where he could live quietly, rather than for its competitive ideals. 5 11
Assigned to Class 1-D, Lin Mu initially intended to remain uninvolved with its social and academic struggles. His encounter with Kikyo Kushida on the entrance bus, however, led to his first sustained friendship at the academy. 2 3
Appearance
Lin Mu is a tall, striking first-year student whose aloof expression and constant lollipop make him conspicuous despite his preference for fading into the background. 3 8
- Short white hair.
- Cold, refined facial features and a generally expressionless demeanor.
- Half-lidded eyes that reinforce his sleepy, detached image.
- Height of 178 cm. 3
- Usually wears the school’s dark red blazer, white shirt, and brown trousers. 1
- Frequently keeps a lollipop in his mouth, often changing flavors daily. 28
Personality
Lin Mu is fundamentally lazy, pragmatic, and highly protective of his personal comfort. He openly states that he wants to coast through school peacefully and graduate without becoming entangled in competition, leadership, or class politics. 8 23
His aversion to socializing is partly shaped by telepathy: hearing other people’s real thoughts made superficial relationships feel exhausting and insincere. He therefore keeps his abilities restrained and prefers solitude, gaming, desserts, occult reading, and quiet library time. 2 5 37
Despite his detached persona, Lin Mu is not indifferent to individual suffering. He gives up his bus seat for an elderly woman, helps Kamuro Masumi when she is being bullied, worries about Kushida being exploited for points, and warns her not to rely on dangerous shortcuts. His concern is usually blunt and reluctant rather than openly affectionate. 2 14 36 43
Abilities & Skills
Telepathy and Memory Reading
Lin Mu can read surface thoughts and access memory fragments without the target’s awareness. He used this ability on Sae Chabashira to learn the academy’s concealed point system, Class D’s evaluation, and the risks of expulsion. 10
- Can absorb information from another person’s thoughts and memories rapidly.
- His telepathic range expanded considerably while he lived at the orphanage. 6
- Uncontrolled telepathy can overwhelm him with surrounding thoughts.
- Lollipops help suppress or regulate the ability, allowing him to avoid reading people around him. 2 3
Psychokinesis and Matter Manipulation
Lin Mu can move and manipulate objects at a distance with psychokinesis. He disguises this power as stage magic while operating his divination business. 15
- Sets up and packs away tents, tables, ropes, cards, stools, and other stall equipment without touching them. 19
- Located a requested book for Hiyori Shiina in the library. 37
- Could use the ability to make studying and examinations trivial, such as rapidly handling books or influencing physical materials. 4 30
- Uses it subtly to avoid exposing the existence of superpowers.
Precognition and Divination
Lin Mu uses precognition to make his fortune-telling readings accurate, building a lucrative “Divination Immortal” persona around Tarot cards and crystal-ball sessions. 12 20
- Predicted Ichinose Honami’s failure to enter the Student Council through a Tarot reading. 16 24
- Foresees likely outcomes in Class D’s crises, including the apparent expulsion of Ken Sudo. 45 46
- Can manipulate events from the sidelines after seeing probable future developments. 47
- Presents his predictions as occult divination rather than psychic power.
Clairvoyance and Enhanced Perception
Lin Mu can detect observation, scan his surroundings, and investigate distant locations through clairvoyance. 32 44
- Detected Sakayanagi Arisu and Manabu Horikita watching the swimming class from an office. 32
- Possesses vague danger intuitions that warn him of hostile attention or possible schemes. 43
- His perception lets him read body language and emotional shifts even without activating telepathy. 8
Super Intelligence
Lin Mu refers to his information-gathering capability as “Super Intelligence.” By combining it with telepathy and memory reading, he quickly uncovered the academy’s hidden operating rules. 10
- Understands the school’s point-driven meritocracy earlier than almost all of his classmates.
- Uses this knowledge to prepare for scarcity, avoid Class D’s financial mistakes, and profit from divination. 11 12
- Remains skeptical of apparent loopholes and anticipates institutional traps. 43
Equipment / Items
- Lollipops — His preferred candy and a practical means of suppressing his telepathy. 2 3
