Background and History

Class D was formed as one of the first-year classes at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School. From the opening ceremony onward, it stood out from Classes A–C for its lax posture, noisy behavior, and lack of discipline. Linmu Fujimiya quickly suspected that it was the school’s lowest-ranked class. 3 4 5

The class initially maintained an indifferent equilibrium: students largely left one another alone, while a smaller number socialized in groups. Hirata Yosuke attempted to establish camaraderie by organizing self-introductions before the homeroom teacher arrived. 6 9

Sae Chabashira became Class D’s homeroom teacher and explained that she would oversee its academics, daily life, discipline, and points. The school gave every student 100,000 Private Points at enrollment, prompting widespread excitement and spending. 9 10 Unbeknownst to most of the class, the monthly Private Point distribution depended on Class Points and comprehensive evaluation. 10 30

During April, the classroom remained disorderly. Students chatted, played on their phones, skipped classes, and generally treated the school as an easy environment. Class D exhausted its initial 1,000 CP and fell to zero by May 1, ending its Private Point distribution. 27 28 29 30

After revealing the class standings, Chabashira announced that only ten Class D students had passed the prior month’s pop quizzes. She further stated that any student failing a subject in future exams would be expelled. Hirata responded by trying to organize the class around studying and recovering CP, though Ken Sudo initially refused to cooperate. 30 31

Before the midterms, Kikyo Kushida distributed obtained answer sheets to the class. Linmu warned her that the apparent shortcut was likely a temporary concession by the academy and would not remain available. 42 43 The class avoided a broader failure crisis, but Sudo failed by one point and was declared expelled. 44 45 Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Suzune Horikita ultimately paid 100,000 Private Points to purchase the needed point from Chabashira, saving Sudo. 47
