Kangqiao had left, leaving only the Three Beasts staring at each other.
The Giant Serpent was the most bewildered of them all.
How could he just leave like that? This Lava Monster was so hard to understand.
It had clearly been a fight to the death, yet in the end, he only beat me and then let me go?
With the Giant Serpent's primitive intelligence, it had never been able to figure out what was going on. In short, from the Giant Serpent's perspective, every move Kangqiao made was filled with meanings it couldn't comprehend.
Though it was somewhat relieved that it hadn't been killed or eaten, the result was that Kangqiao had built something inexplicable (referring to the city) on its subjects' territory.
Even now, as it mulled over these events, its thoughts were still a haze, and it had no idea what the Lava Monster's every action was supposed to mean.
If it couldn't figure it out, then so be it. The Giant Serpent's barren mind gave up on thinking.
However, even though the Giant Serpent stopped pondering Kangqiao's past behavior, it held a grudge.
The moment it recalled the miserable beating it had taken a few days ago, the Giant Serpent, now missing a few screws in its head, immediately let its eyes darken again.
It was indeed afraid of Kangqiao. A few days ago, when it saw Kangqiao, it didn't even dare to raise its head high.
Terrified that a single careless move might anger Kangqiao and get it killed.
Its demeanor was utterly pathetic.
But now Kangqiao was gone! The Lava Monster that had filled it with fear had run away!
If I can't beat the Lava Giant Beast, can't I at least bully the weak little ants that look so similar to it?
Staring at the group of Dinosaur People who were equally bewildered inside the empty stone city, a wicked thought briefly crossed the Giant Serpent's mind.
However, though the Giant Serpent wanted a little revenge, it then thought: what if that Lava Monster came back?
If I killed its subjects, would it really not hunt me down?
Where could I even hide?
That Lava Monster can burrow into the ground!
The Giant Serpent hesitated again as it looked down at the tiny Dinosaur People on the ground.
Perhaps sensing the malice in the Giant Serpent's gaze, the Dinosaur People, who had been dazed and wondering why their god had suddenly burrowed and disappeared, all became alert.
They wanted to retreat, to get out of the Giant Serpent's immediate attack range, and even looked ready to abandon the city and flee outright.
But before the Dinosaur People could even think about temporarily withdrawing, the God of Water, standing to the side outside the giant city, suddenly let out a low roar.
At that moment, the Dinosaur People and the members of the other three tribes all saw it: the God of Water was staring at the God of Snakes and issuing a roar that sounded like a warning.
And it wasn't just the God of Water. Even the God of Sky on the other side let out a strange, piercing shriek.
Both of them were fixed on the Giant Serpent, presenting a united front.
The giant beasts of this era had very little intelligence; one could even say they were simple.
The Water Lizard's feelings toward Kangqiao were simple: whoever is good to me, I am good to them.
Last night, Kangqiao had given it a lot of delicious food and let it eat its fill.
The combination of good food and a full belly naturally made the Water Lizard unconsciously develop a strong fondness for Kangqiao.
"That guy is really a generous beast."
"Even if his actions are a bit inexplicable."
The Water Lizard thought to itself about Kangqiao's kindness, while also noticing the malice radiating from the Giant Serpent's eyes toward the Dinosaur People.
In this world, only giant beasts truly understand giant beasts.
They have low intelligence and are simple, and being simple means they hold the strongest grudges, but also remember kindness the best.
If the Water Lizard had been the one beaten by Kangqiao last night, then after Kangqiao left, the Water Lizard would certainly have harbored malice toward the Dinosaur People too.
But reality didn't have so many "ifs."
The one who got beaten was the Giant Serpent, not it.
So, upon discovering the Giant Serpent's malice toward the Dinosaur People, the Water Lizard didn't mind protecting Kangqiao's subjects.
After all, the Water Lizard had developed a fondness for Kangqiao, so naturally, it extended some of that affection to his subjects.
Not to mention that the Dinosaur People were the ones who helped the Water Lizard roast meat last night.
Therefore, the Water Lizard was even more willing to protect these cute little creatures on the ground.
Similarly, the Giant Moth's thoughts were similar to the Water Lizard's.
Though it wasn't as fond of Kangqiao as the Water Lizard was, it still acknowledged the Dinosaur People.
Because from now on, if its subjects wanted to borrow fire, they would have to go through the Dinosaur People. For the sake of future culinary pleasures, it didn't want to see the Dinosaur People killed by the Giant Serpent in front of it.
The two giant beasts stared menacingly at the Giant Serpent and growled, their expressions seeming to say:
"Little buddy, what do you think you're doing?"
"Don't say we didn't warn you. If you make a dangerous move, don't blame us for being rude."
The Giant Serpent still had lingering injuries, and now, with two other Giant Beasts staring it down, a chill crept into its heart.
The Giant Serpent caved quickly, and directly at that.
It responded with a low cry of its own, but the sound was filled with appeasement.
"I really don't have any ideas, truly. You're overthinking it."
That was roughly what the Giant Serpent meant to convey.
Whether the Water Lizard and the Giant Moth understood or not, in the end, they slowly withdrew their dangerous gazes from it.
Seeing this, the Giant Serpent felt a surge of indignation and grief.
This was the first time since it had gained memory, wisdom, and the title of so-called deity that it had been so humbled.
Once, every creature on this land who saw it was awed by its power.
Why? Why was it so unlucky this time upon waking?
Not only had it been beaten by that lava fellow, but now it was being threatened by these two others—only it knew how agonizing that felt.
It was all the fault of those useless subjects on the surface, dragging it into such a huge mess.
The Giant Serpent's mind was quick to turn.
In an instant, it shifted its resentment onto its own subjects.
Perhaps this was what they called bullying the weak and fearing the strong?
Kangqiao had left, so there was no reason to stay here any longer.
Thus, the Water Lizard and the Giant Moth both prepared to depart.
However, before leaving, the Water Lizard left some of his Shark People subjects in the city.
Though not particularly bright, the Water Lizard understood that since this "city" was built by that lava fellow and seemed important to him, there must be a reason.
And seeing how these Dinosaur People clearly intended to stay in the city, the Water Lizard, in a fit of loyalty, felt he should protect these decent fellows.
Besides, this would let his own subjects learn how to roast meat from the Children of Lava.
He didn't want to wake up next time and still be served unpalatable raw food.
The Water Lizard was quite satisfied with this outing. He cast one last meaningful glance at the Giant Serpent before following the Great River back toward the coastal waters.
As for the Giant Moth?
Seeing the Water Lizard leave his subjects behind, this clever creature likewise left a batch of Mosquito People in the city.
At the same time, the Giant Moth unabashedly let out two low cries at the Giant Serpent.
The warning was unmistakable, filling the Giant Serpent's heart with even more bitterness.
"What a joke? What's wrong with you two? Why are you both helping that lava fellow so much?"
"What's so good about him? Just because he gave you tasty meat? Hah! Unbelievable. Morons."
Well, anyway, that was roughly the Giant Serpent's true thoughts at the moment.
Finally, too furious to bear, as if anger had filled its stomach, the Giant Serpent ignored its own subjects and burrowed straight into the ground, speeding toward its original underground lair.
Though stupid, the Giant Serpent wasn't foolish. If it still had designs on the Dinosaur People now, it would be truly courting death.
Three against one?
The thought alone was despairing for a snake. So, perhaps giving up in self-defeat, the Giant Serpent simply threw in the towel, planning to sleep away its troubles.
Now, only sleep could temporarily let it forget all the frustration and displeasure of reality.
As for schemes and plots, or seeking alliances with other Giant Beasts of this world, its little brain wasn't that clever.
Besides, it still had internal injuries.
