The Aggrieved Giant Serpent

Kangqiao left, leaving only the Three Beasts staring at one another.

The Giant Serpent was the most bewildered of them all.

Why had he just left like that? That lava fellow was so hard to understand.

It had clearly been a fight to the death, yet in the end, he had merely beaten him up and let him go?

With the Giant Serpent's primitive intelligence, he had never figured out what was going on. In any case, Kangqiao's every action was filled with meanings he could not comprehend.

Though he was somewhat relieved that he had not been killed or eaten, Kangqiao had gone and built some inexplicable thing—meaning the city—within his people's territory.

Even now, the more he thought about it, the more confused he became. For a while, he had no idea what the lava fellow's every move had meant.

If he could not figure it out, then so be it. With his impoverished mind, the Giant Serpent gave up thinking.

Still, although the Giant Serpent stopped pondering Kangqiao's previous actions, he held grudges.

The moment he recalled how miserably he had been beaten a few days ago, the dim-witted Giant Serpent's eyes darkened once more.

He truly feared Kangqiao. When he had seen Kangqiao a few days ago, he had not even dared raise his head too high.

He had been afraid that one careless move would anger Kangqiao and get him killed.

He had been pathetic beyond words.

But Kangqiao had left now! That Lava Monster he feared had run off!

I may not be able to beat that lava Giant Beast, but can't I still bully those weak little ants that look so much like him?

As he looked at the group of equally bewildered Dinosaur People within the empty stone city, a somewhat wicked thought flashed through the Giant Serpent's mind.

However, though the Giant Serpent wanted a little revenge, he then considered what would happen if that lava fellow came back.

If he killed Kangqiao's people, would Kangqiao truly not hunt him down?

Where could he hide?

That lava monster could burrow underground!

The Giant Serpent hesitated again as he looked at the tiny Dinosaur People on the ground.

Perhaps sensing the malice in the Giant Serpent's gaze, the Dinosaur People on the ground became alert.

They had originally been standing there in a daze, wondering why their god had suddenly burrowed away. Now, they all tried to retreat beyond the Giant Serpent's immediate striking range, as though ready to abandon the city and flee at any moment.

However, before the Dinosaur People could withdraw for the time being, the God of Water, towering outside the great city to one side, suddenly let out a low roar.

At that moment, the Dinosaur People and the people of the other three races all saw the God of Water looking at the God of Snakes and releasing a roar that sounded like a warning.

Nor was the God of Water alone. Even the God of Sky at one side let out a strange shriek.

Both of them stared at the Giant Serpent, looking as though they shared a common enemy.

The Giant Beasts of this age possessed little intelligence. They could even be called remarkably simple-minded.

The Water Lizard's feelings toward Kangqiao were very simple: whoever treated him well, he treated well in return.

The previous night, Kangqiao had given him plenty of delicious food and allowed him to eat his fill.

Fine food and the satisfaction of a full belly—those twin pleasures naturally made the Water Lizard develop a strong fondness for Kangqiao.

That fellow really was a generous beast.

Though his actions were a little inexplicable.

As the Water Lizard silently thought well of Kangqiao, he also noticed the malice radiating from the Giant Serpent's eyes as he looked at the Dinosaur People.

In this world, only Giant Beasts truly understood Giant Beasts.

They were not very intelligent, but they were simple-minded. And the simple-minded held grudges most firmly, while also remembering kindness.

If Kangqiao had beaten up the Water Lizard the previous night, then after Kangqiao left, the Water Lizard would surely have harbored ill will toward the Dinosaur People as well.

But reality had no such hypotheticals.

The one who had been beaten was the Giant Serpent, not him.

Therefore, upon discovering that the Giant Serpent bore ill will toward the Dinosaur People, the Water Lizard did not mind protecting Kangqiao's people.

After all, the Water Lizard had taken a liking to Kangqiao, so he naturally extended some of that affection to Kangqiao's people.

Not to mention that the Dinosaur People had also helped roast meat for the Water Lizard the previous night.

Thus, the Water Lizard was even more willing to protect those adorable little fellows on the ground.

The Giant Moth's thoughts were similarly close to the Water Lizard's.

Though it did not hold as much affection for Kangqiao as the Water Lizard did, it still acknowledged the Dinosaur People.

After all, if its people wanted to borrow fire in the future, they would have to seek out the Dinosaur People. For the sake of future culinary pleasures, it did not want to see the Dinosaur People slaughtered by the Giant Serpent before it.

The two Giant Beasts glared at the Giant Serpent and growled lowly, as though saying:

Hey, little brother, what are you trying to do?

Don't say we didn't warn you. If you make any dangerous move, don't blame us for getting rough.

The Giant Serpent was already injured, and now that the other two Giant Beasts were watching him, he could not help feeling intimidated.

The Giant Serpent caved quickly and directly.

He also responded with a low cry, though his voice was full of goodwill.

I really don't have any ideas. Really, you're overthinking it.

That was probably what the Giant Serpent wanted to convey.

It was unclear whether the Water Lizard and Giant Moth understood, but in the end, they slowly withdrew their dangerous gazes from him.

At the sight of this, the Giant Serpent felt indescribably bitter and indignant.

Since gaining memories and intelligence and becoming a so-called god, this was the first time he had ever been so humiliated.

Back then, what creature upon this land had not been awed by his strength upon seeing him?

Why? Why had he become so unlucky after awakening this time?

Not only had he been beaten by that lava fellow, but now he was being threatened by two other fellows as well. Only he himself knew how miserable that felt.

It was all because of those useless people on the ground. They had actually brought him such enormous trouble.

The Giant Serpent's mind was rather quick to turn.

In an instant, he shifted all his resentment onto his own people.

Perhaps that was what it meant to bully the weak and fear the strong.

Kangqiao had left, so there was no reason to remain here any longer.

Thus, both the Water Lizard and the Giant Moth intended to leave.

Before doing so, however, the Water Lizard left behind some of his Shark People in the city.

Though the Water Lizard was not very clever, he knew that since this "city" had been built by that lava fellow and seemed so important to him, there must be a reason for it.

Moreover, the Dinosaur People clearly intended to remain in the city.

With that in mind, the Water Lizard felt, out of loyalty, that he ought to protect these decent fellows.

Besides, this would let his people properly learn how to roast meat from the lava fellow's people.

They should not bring him more disgusting raw food the next time he awoke.

The Water Lizard was very satisfied with this journey. Only after giving the Giant Serpent another meaningful look did he follow the Great River back toward the Near Sea.

As for the Giant Moth?

After seeing the Water Lizard leave behind his people, it cleverly left a group of Mosquito People in the city as well.

At the same time, the Giant Moth did not hesitate to let out two low cries toward the Giant Serpent.

The warning in them could not have been more obvious, making the Giant Serpent feel even more bitter and indignant.

What kind of joke is this? What is wrong with you two? Why are you both helping that lava fellow so much?

What's so good about him? Is it only because he gave you tasty meat? Hmph! Utterly unreasonable. You idiots.

Well, those were probably the Giant Serpent's true thoughts at that moment.

Finally, so furious that he seemed to have been filled by anger alone, the Giant Serpent ignored his own people and burrowed straight into the ground, rapidly heading for his original underground cave.

The Giant Serpent might have been foolish, but he was not stupid. If he still had any designs on the Dinosaur People now, he would truly be courting death.

Three against one?

The very thought was enough to make a serpent despair. Perhaps out of sheer self-abandonment, the Giant Serpent simply gave up and decided to sleep his troubles away.

For now, only sleep could temporarily make him forget all the frustrations and unpleasantness of reality.

As for plotting schemes or seeking out other Giant Beasts in this world to join forces with him, his little brain was not clever enough for that.

Besides, he was still suffering from internal injuries.
