Dawn rose, washing away the night's madness. Blood covered the earth, and death rose all around. But all of it had been hidden beneath the veil of night. Once daylight came, the darkness seemed to disappear. That gave Huo Yuhao and the others a chance to catch their breath and set up camp in the forest.
The campfire blazed once more, but this time it was nothing like the previous one. Everyone looked utterly miserable. Their enemies' blood and the blood from their own wounds had mixed together, staining their clean clothes. They didn't have the strength to do anything about it now, though most of them had been a little fussy about cleanliness.
But now, laziness had won out. They simply didn't want to move, and they lay down to rest. Huo Yuhao and Ning Tian had started the fire. They were the only two without injuries, so the job had fallen to them, even though they were exhausted too.
Huo Yuhao was at a loss about what to do next. He wasn't in any danger; no one could stop him if he wanted to leave. With the Silkworm Slough over his shoulders, he could go anywhere under the heavens. But what about his friends? Their pursuers were still searching tirelessly. They'd evaded them once, but could they keep doing so?
What if Huo Yuhao ran out of Soul Power? The pursuers they'd barely shaken off would come after them with everything they had. Just thinking about it made his head feel like it was about to explode. He decided not to think about the future for now. Instead, he tried to figure out where these people had come from.
