Background & History

Tang San lived in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao. At age six, he was eager to learn about the soul master profession despite Tang Hao having forbidden him from pursuing it; Old Jack's insistence enabled him to attend the village awakening ceremony. He had already become acquainted with Xiao Feng through their frequent meetings near the lakeside and came to regard Xiao Feng as an unusually mature, trustworthy older brother. 2

His awakening produced Blue Silver Grass, which Su Yuntao deemed a waste martial soul. Tang San nevertheless insisted on completing the soul-power test and was revealed to possess Innate Full Soul Power. Xiao Feng deduced that this contradiction indicated Twin Martial Souls, prompting Tang San to reveal his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. 3 4

After Tang Hao saw the Clear Sky Hammer, he ordered Tang San to conceal both his twin-martial-soul status and the hammer itself, forbidding him from attaching Spirit Rings to it. Tang San's questions about this warning led him to suspect that his father had once been a powerful soul master. 5

Tang San later learned that Tang Hao was the Clear Sky Douluo. Tang Hao encouraged him to remain close to Xiao Feng for safety, taught him the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique, and supported his departure for Nuoding Academy. 7 9

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San established Xiao Feng's authority in Dorm Seven by defeating Wang Sheng almost instantly. He also became wary of Yu Xiaogang after Xiao Feng challenged the latter's intentions toward Tang San's Twin Martial Souls. 12 17

Tang San is composed and observant, even when confronting unfamiliar soul-master customs or stronger opponents. He is curious about the world beyond Holy Soul Village, but he does not accept information blindly; Xiao Feng's explanation of Twin Martial Souls persuades him because it matches his own circumstances and long-standing trust in Xiao Feng. 2 4 5
