The next morning, at the hospital.
Li Wen had kept watch by his father's bedside all night without sleeping.
The attending physician made his rounds and spoke to the haggard-looking Li Wen and Wang Juan with a gentle smile:
"Late last night, an urgent payment came through at the Special Care Ward's billing office. All of Mr. Li Hong's examination and treatment expenses have now been paid in full.
"The dean and our team of experts also held an overnight consultation and worked out a better treatment plan. Don't worry. We'll do everything we can."
Li Wen froze. Paid in full? Five hundred thousand? Who had paid it?
He turned sharply to his mother. Wang Juan looked just as bewildered and shocked. "N-no, it wasn't me. I don't have any money left—"
"Then who was it?" Li Wen's thoughts were in turmoil. Could it have been someone from Flying Star Class—someone he knew, who had both the means and the willingness to help him?
Could it have been the school?
Wait, yesterday he thought he'd seen a familiar figure from behind. It had looked a lot like Teacher Fang. Could it have been him?
His first impulse was to rush to school and ask Teacher Fang.
However, when Li Wen arrived at school, his mind full of questions, and found Fang Chengwu during a break in training, Fang Chengwu was standing in the corridor of Hongyi Building, apparently admiring the view.
"Teacher Fang! The hospital bills—" Li Wen began urgently.
Fang Chengwu turned around, still wearing that gentle yet inscrutable smile. He raised a hand and lightly patted Li Wen on the shoulder, cutting him off:
"Li Wen, I know about your father. It happened so suddenly, and the pressure must be immense."
