The New Top of the Food Chain
"They possessed intelligence identical to that of the Original Zombie..."
"Stop talking!"
Everyone turned pale; the mere guess was enough to fill them all with despair.
"If zombies can really evolve, then what are we humans? Just trash destined to be eliminated by this era?"
The fleeing convoy felt despair.
Afterwards, they encountered other convoys, and they gathered together to share their experiences. As a result, convoys in this direction had all encountered those strange zombies to varying degrees.
The mood was already depressed, after all, after losing the large base that sheltered them, they were now displaced survivors.
With no future in sight, and then these strangely behaving zombies appearing.
People with poor mental states have already started to break down, shouting and yelling things like "Humanity is going to perish!" and "It's all over, we're all doomed!"
Afterwards, the convoy encountered people from a nearby medium-sized base.
They brandished guns and forced the convoy to stop.
Who are you? Where are you from? What is your purpose?
The people in the convoy quickly raised their hands. "We escaped from a large base in the north. Our base was overrun by a million-strong Zombie Tide of Original Zombie."
"What?"
The people at the medium-sized base never expected to hear such devastating news from this group.
They quickly took the people in the convoy to their base and reported the situation to the base's leader and higher-ups.
Even the leader and others couldn't believe it.
"Impossible! That's Tian Hao! How could he possibly lose..."
For these survivors and their settlement, Tian Hao was like a perpetually bright morning star.
As long as he is alive, humanity still has hope.
But now, someone is telling them that humanity's guiding star, its last hope, has been captured just like that?
Any survivor who heard this news would likely be shocked and filled with despair.
"Where is Chief Tian Hao?"
"He... he stayed behind to hold off the Zombie Tide and cover our escape through the back door. I'm afraid... I'm afraid he's already... already sacrificed himself."
One of the fleeing caravan members was brought before the leader to report on their experiences and circumstances.
As he spoke, the man's eyes turned red and he began to cry, his sobs filled with despair and confusion.
Like a homeless child, helpless and pitiful.
"Enough!"
The leader slammed his hand on the armrest, signaling the other person to stop crying and making a fuss in front of him, which was giving him a headache. He rubbed his forehead, where the nerves were throbbing.
"Heavens above, why won't you leave us alone? Do you really want humanity to be wiped out before you're satisfied?"
Seeing their leader like this, the other high-ranking officials couldn't help but start gossiping.
"If we don't eliminate the Original Zombie, given their ability to command and control all zombies, our bases will be no match for them and will eventually be defeated one by one."
Even so, what other way do we have to stop those zombies?
"Thinking about it this way, zombies are really blessed. It's like how we humans evolved hands to use tools earlier than other animals, thus gradually rising to the top of the food chain."
"Next, it'll probably be the zombies' turn, gradually eliminating us, the former apex predators, and becoming the new apex predators."
