It seemed to be waiting for them to board.
The warning lights flashed on and off.
Their hearts pounded faster and faster, as though urging them onward.
Tap, tap, tap!
Footsteps suddenly echoed from the stairs.
The group jolted in fright.
Terrified and uneasy, they turned to look toward the source of the sound.
The subway platform was dim, its overhead lights flickering and casting little illumination.
In a place like this, it was easy for them to think of terrible possibilities.
Could it be a Weird?
Should they run? Waiting here to die was clearly not an option.
But they had already searched every corner of the station. There was nowhere else to go.
There were no lights by the station stairs. They looked like a black hole, with what seemed to be a chilly draft blowing out from within.
They did not dare look any longer.
Just as they trembled in fear—
Two more hurried sets of footsteps approached.
Everyone clung to one another in terror. It was over!
They could not even handle one Weird, and now two more had come!
Fu Zeyu and Zhao Yuyang came down the stairs.
Zhao Yuyang spotted his friends at once.
"Great! Are you guys okay?"
Zhao Yuyang had wanted to run over to them, but he remembered something and stopped.
He was worried. What if these people were fake too?
One of his friends raised his head and looked at Zhao Yuyang. "A-Yang?"
Once they recognized Zhao Yuyang, their eyes immediately lit up.
Then they asked, "Wait, how did you get down here?"
"Did you call the police?"
"Did you bring people to rescue us?"
They looked expectantly at Zhao Yuyang and the unfamiliar person beside him.
Zhao Yuyang hesitated, guiltily looking away as cold sweat formed on his forehead.
