Background / History

Great Qin was founded by Zhang Rang, Huang Zhongtian, and their forces after the True Dragon destroyed Great Zhou. The collapse of Great Zhou eliminated many sect leaders and powerful figures gathered at Heavenly Capital, allowing the insurgents’ unification campaign to proceed with little resistance. Zhang Rang was enthroned, the capital was established in Qing Province, and the new state adopted water as an auspicious element, black as its revered color, and the True Dragon as its totem. 136 138

In its first year, Great Qin remained politically fragile: disasters, northern barbarian raids, and Great Zhou remnants threatened a population still recovering from war. Zhang Rang conducted a Fengshan sacrifice on Mount Tai to legitimize his rule under the mandate of the True Dragon. Bai Chuan’s appearance and acknowledgment of Huang Zhongtian’s agreement publicly established Great Qin as a nation under True Dragon protection, causing Great Zhou remnants to retreat and stabilizing the state. 138

Great Qin prospered during Bai Chuan’s absence. Qing Province became a major commercial center along the Yellow Water River, with docks, shops, overseas goods, and trade from other provinces. Former mountain dwellers such as Er Gou’s family were resettled there, gaining homes, work, and access to literacy. 160

Relationship with the True Dragon

Great Qin’s early stability depended heavily on the perceived protection of Bai Chuan, the True Dragon. The population and court treated his appearance as confirmation that the new dynasty possessed divine backing, while Zhang Rang feared that losing this favor would invite rebellion and unrest. 138 139

This relationship deteriorated as Bai Chuan’s worldwide evolutionary changes produced giant beasts throughout Great Qin. Zhang Rang’s attempt to seek the True Dragon at Heavenly Capital failed because the Origin Dragon guarding the ruins did not recognize his request and barred him from entering. Zhang Rang interpreted the rejection as abandonment and began mobilizing Great Qin to protect itself independently. 182

By the time of the final campaign, Zhang Rang believed the True Dragon cared only for the world’s overall evolution and survival of the fittest, not for humanity’s continued existence. He therefore gambled Great Qin’s military strength on a crusade against Bai Chuan. 187

Story Role / Major Arcs

Founding and True Dragon Protection

Following Great Zhou’s destruction, Great Qin unified much of the former dynasty’s territory under Zhang Rang. The Fengshan sacrifice and Bai Chuan’s public intervention gave the state a reputation for being protected by the True Dragon. 138

Era of Giant Beasts

Fifteen years later, giant beasts began appearing across Great Qin, threatening its population and exposing the loss of its former martial power. Zhang Rang answered the crisis by mobilizing craftsmen, scholars, and soldiers, eventually supporting Zhou Qingqing’s Dragon Transformation program. 182 183

Dragonman Empire

The successful serum program transformed Great Qin into a Dragonman state with a rapidly expanding Dragon-Man Legion. The empire regained control of Qing Province and fielded Dragon Machine Soldiers, but its leadership increasingly viewed the True Dragon as an existential threat rather than a protector. 183 184

Crusade and Collapse

Zhang Rang, Zhou Qingqing, elite troops, noble families, and Dragon Machine Soldiers marched on Heavenly Capital to challenge the True Dragon. The campaign failed, Zhang Rang died, and Zhou Qingqing returned to preserve Great Qin’s most valuable knowledge as requested in his final testament. 187 212

Soon afterward, three Ancient Dragons attacked and destroyed the Great Qin Imperial Capital. With the court fragmented and officials prioritizing their own interests, Zhou Qingqing evacuated personnel and research assets before abandoning the palace. The Great Qin region entered a dark age under continued Ancient Dragon devastation. 214

Survival Efforts After the Fall

Great Qin survivors under Zhou Qingqing continued researching methods to resist the Ancient Dragons. They built an invisible flying vessel, used red fragments to lure Ancient Dragons away from Great Qin, and sought to preserve humanity through research into the crystal known as the Stone of Power. 222 223 224 227
