Background / History

After Green Parasol City was ceded to the Corpse Sha Sect, the other Mystic Sword Sect disciples withdrew, but Lin Yu remained alone at Spirit Dew Mansion. He intended to secure a path of survival for the city’s sickly, elderly, and otherwise vulnerable mortals, who could not safely travel to the Mystic Sword Sect’s remaining territory. 41 42

When the Corpse Sha Sect’s Mortal-Capturing Squad arrived, Lin Yu blocked Pu Ren'an’s Poison Sha from reaching the mortals and confronted the group rather than surrendering the city’s population. 41

His righteousness is tempered by pragmatism. To avoid a battle that would endanger the city, he considers Fang Huai’s proposal to purchase the mortals’ freedom, then later gives Fang Huai Crimson Sky Cry in exchange for their release. 44 45 49

He is also merciful in combat: while using Crimson Sky Cry against the Green Scab Spider, he spares Cheng Zhaozhao rather than strike through her, sacrificing a possible killing blow. 46
