Caught off guard, Fang took a little acid spray to the chest. It immediately sizzled as though he'd been splashed with sulfuric acid, sending up clouds of foul-smelling smoke and searing pain. An ordinary person might have screamed and collapsed, rolling on the ground.
But for Fang, now transformed, pain only made him stronger!
In just over ten seconds, Fang had hacked the Ouroboros B Bio-Weapon Specimen in front of him into pieces. His claws were sharp enough to cut through any ordinary flesh and blood.
Of course, Fang had paid a steep price to end the fight quickly. A bloody hole the size of a bowl had been punched through the right side of his chest, and three fingers on his left hand had been severed. Still, these injuries were acceptable to him.
It was worth noting that when Fang had hacked his enemy to pieces, he'd noticed that its internal organs had undergone obvious mutations. Twisted together among them were countless strange, black-and-red creatures that looked like little snakes. Even its blood had turned into a thick, blackish-red paste!
Fang had no time to dwell on any of this. In truth, he'd experienced things even stranger. The most urgent thing was that he knew the enemy was in the shadows while he was exposed, leaving him at a serious disadvantage. He needed to evade their next attack first.
He didn't take the elevator. It was the easiest place for the enemy to tamper with, so he sprinted down the emergency stairs instead. With his formidable transformed physique, it took him only about thirty seconds to race from the twelfth floor to the garage on level B2.
Fang had also prepared a backup plan in the garage. He pulled away the tarp beside him, revealing a modified Harley motorcycle. A motorcycle was far more maneuverable than a car, and no less fast, making it Fang's first choice.
Five or six more people came rushing down from above. They were all dressed in black suits and armed with guns. They must have been the ones blocking the elevator upstairs; when they realized something was wrong, they'd come running down.
But they'd arrived at the wrong time. Fang still had forty or fifty seconds left in his transformation. With a roar, he charged straight at them.
The others raised their guns and fired, but though Fang couldn't outrun bullets, he could outrun their reactions. He leaped up and sprinted sideways along the wall for several steps. The bullets could only chase after him, kicking up dust in his wake, before he plunged into the middle of the group.
These men were well trained, but they weren't much better than the ones at the docks. Fang tore through them like a one-sided slaughter, unleashing a bloody massacre in an instant.
A minute later, a Harley roared out of the parking garage. It didn't take the usual route, instead racing up the emergency ramp. Then, after accelerating, it launched from a nearby flower bed, leaping five or six meters through the air.
That way, even if the enemy had set up a trap at the garage exit, their plans would come to nothing. The motorcycle quickly disappeared into the traffic.
All of this was faithfully recorded by the cameras above and relayed to a black command vehicle two kilometers away.
A man sat in front of the monitors inside the command vehicle. He was muscular and wore an immaculate suit. His hair was slicked back with enough wax to shine, and he even wore a bow tie. He had only one eye.
He was Wilson, Anmoreya Corporation's executive director for Asia!
Watching Fang's departing figure, Wilson said slowly,
"Very good. Your combat strength is far beyond what we expected."
Then he sneered.
"But after learning that the B Bio-Weapon Specimen didn't last ten seconds, my authorization was upgraded to A+! Let's see if you can survive this time!"
With that, Wilson pressed the communicator beside him and issued an order.
"Keep a close eye on him. The moment he enters a sparsely populated area, deploy the Cleaners!"
Fang's Harley belched a plume of smoke as he took a sharp ninety-degree turn onto Riverside Avenue. The area was quiet, and it was already dark. There were few cars on the road, and a light drizzle was falling.
Fang had his reasons for heading somewhere with fewer people. The enemies who'd attacked him before had all appeared in human form.
Now the enemy was hidden while he was exposed. If he went somewhere crowded, he'd have to stay on guard every second, because anyone around him could be an enemy—what kind of fucking life was that?
So Fang's choice wasn't necessarily wrong. Thinking of this, he couldn't help remembering someone else: a bespectacled girl who looked utterly ordinary. A pain beyond words twisted in his heart.
"Damn it! If Xixina hadn't been assassinated in the last world, she could've used her psychic tentacles to tell friend from foe. How would I have ended up in such a sorry state?!"
Fang didn't yet know that his movements were being tracked constantly by two satellites overhead. They could even make out the label on his collar. Both satellites bore a conspicuous black-and-red triangular emblem.
In the command vehicle more than ten kilometers away, Wilson sneered as he issued another order.
"Riverside Avenue is sealed off. There are only seventeen people moving around in the area, well within our control! Launch the drones, destroy his vehicle, and notify the field team to activate the Cleaners! This man is hiding all kinds of secrets, so capture him alive if possible."
Less than a minute after the order went out, more than a dozen drones flew in from the distance and opened fire on Fang. They kept at least fifty meters away and used specially made thermite rounds. Each drone could fire fourteen times!
Against this attack, Fang was at a serious disadvantage. He had almost no way to fight back, and his lack of ranged attacks was exposed. In less than twenty seconds, his customized Harley was already on fire.
He was forced into a drainage culvert nearby. The drones had no angle to shoot him from there, so they could only circle uselessly outside.
The standoff didn't last long. From the distance came the thrum of helicopter rotors. Three large Kearney helicopters appeared among the dark clouds on the horizon, flying slowly toward him in a V formation.
Suspended beneath each helicopter was a huge black box, more than four meters long and over two meters wide. Its surface was dull and bore a black-and-red triangular design.
When the helicopters reached the area near Fang, they didn't descend. Instead, they dropped the three large black boxes.
The boxes fell from hundreds of meters up and hit the ground with a dull thud, without cracking or deforming. Inside the command vehicle in the distance, Wilson's cold voice rang out:
"The Cleaner Project is officially underway!"
