Writing Stories is Ultimately Writing People

In fact, I had already prepared myself to be criticized yesterday.

Because everyone has their own moral views and interpretations of what they read. Whenever moral choices are involved, controversy is inevitable.

Some readers will empathize with Fang Heling and feel that Jiang Wang is being too arrogant. (Something along the lines of... Haven't you killed people too? Who are you putting on airs for?)

Others will despise Fang Heling and question why Jiang Wang gave him another chance to kill Zhang Linchuan together in the end. (Something along the lines of... Can that really be whitewashed?)

Such doubts were bound to arise.

I did everything I could, tore out all my hair, trying to strike a balance—but with torrents rushing on both sides, how could I possibly stay completely dry?

So I deleted and revised it several times, uncertain whether I should write it at all. (With this time, I could have given myself a day off. I can't even remember the last time I rested...)

The reason I still wrote it this way, and took on this work that might prove thankless, was simply because at this point, Wang Changji, Fang Heling, and Jiang Wang were bound to converge, and there had to be a clash of ideas between them.

To write a story is, in the end, to write people.

Rather than glossing over it, speaking vaguely, and offending no one, I believe directly cutting it open and questioning others as well as oneself is a more responsible approach to writing.

It was also the best presentation I could think of.

I offer you what I believe to be the "best."

And I must also admit that it first and foremost satisfies my own pursuit of the story.

Thank you all for your understanding.

Thank you to
