"Knowledge and Insight"

Divergent Path was an incredibly powerful Supernatural Power. Otherwise, it would never have become the strongest support of Zhuang Chenggan, a great ruler of his generation.

But it was constrained by two things—

First, cultivation; second, knowledge and insight.

Cultivation was easy to understand. Any Supernatural Power used against an enemy was constrained by the cultivations of both the one who wielded it and the one who received it. No matter how powerful Jiang Wang's Samadhi True Fire was, it was not enough to let him challenge a Divine Presence expert. Unless that expert stood motionless and completely undefended, Samadhi True Fire had little chance of succeeding.

When he killed Hai Zongming, who had Outer Tower Peak cultivation but no Supernatural Power, he had also tailored his entire approach to the task. Xiang Qian used Sword Breaking the Four Symbols to seal off the Starry Light Tower. Jiang Wang first broke the Dragon-Binding Rope, then used the Wind-Fixing Pearl to unravel Hai Zongming's protective Daoist Art. Only after that did he unleash Samadhi True Fire at full force, burning the completely undefended Hai Zongming to ashes.

The stronger Jiang Wang's cultivation and the weaker his opponent's, the more he could influence them into making worse choices. The reverse was also true.

The constraints of cultivation were so universal that, in essence, the only thing truly limiting Divergent Path was "knowledge and insight."

"Knowledge" meant consciousness, while "insight" meant visual perception. Recognizing principles and judging uncertainties—that was knowledge and insight.

Divergent Path worked by guiding an opponent to "go astray" from among countless choices. And guiding an opponent's choices required one basic prerequisite: knowing what choices were available to them.
