| Name | Rift (裂缝) |
| Alias(es) | Spatial rift; fissure |
| Role | Spatial opening that can contain Exotic Beasts and other inhabited spaces 7 223 |
| First Appearance | A newly opened F-Class spatial rift near the Northern Frontier convoy 2 |
Power Progression
Rifts are graded by detected intensity, but a change in rank does not necessarily mean their inhabitants have changed.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| E-Rank → D-Rank | 17 | One surveyed rift doubled in size and was reclassified as D-Rank. Its beast population remained mostly E-Rank, with a few individuals approaching the Martial Master threshold. |
Ranks and Inhabitants
| Rift rank | Documented threat |
|---|---|
| F-Rank | Contains F-Class beasts, including Blood Claw Wolves identified as Martial Disciple Rank 4 8. |
| E-Rank | Contains E-Class beasts such as the Red Flame Earth Lizard 10. |
| D-Rank | Normally presents Martial Master-level beasts, though a newly reclassified D-Rank rift may still contain mostly E-Rank beasts 17 29. |
| C-Rank | Its beasts begin at the Martial Ancestor level 42. |
| B-Rank | Can contain Martial King-level beasts 51 52. |
| A-Rank | Expected to contain Martial Venerable-level beasts 90. |
Appearance
Rifts appear as tears or gashes in space, but their visible form varies by location.
- The first rift Lin Feng sees hangs in the sky, with an irregular outline, flickering purple edges, and movement visible within it 2.
- An F-Class rift north of the Seventh Defense Line opens as a ground-level black gash nearly twenty meters wide, with dim red pulses in its depths 7.
- The newly formed B-Rank rift beyond the Sixth Defense Line is a ground-level opening over eighty meters wide, with dark light rising from below 52.
Properties and Hazards
- Beast activity — Exotic Beasts occupy rifts and can remain outside after an opening closes. Beasts within a rift regenerate periodically, roughly every seven to ten days 3 20.
- Interior spaces — Explored rifts can have passages, multiple layers, and more than one entrance or exit 10 54. A survivor of the Skyhorn Clan incursion reports a much larger interior containing buildings, writing, and assembled armies 223.
- Nesting — A higher-ranked rift can open inside a lower-ranked one. Lin Feng finds a C-Rank opening deep within the E17 Rift; such nested rifts are described as rare and associated with concentrated energy near a rift’s bottom 42.
- Unstable conditions — The Miniature Star Abyss Rift subjects entrants to hundreds of times normal gravity and airborne corrosive poison 350 352. A deep fissure encountered during the same expedition contains Spatial Turbulence 361.
Story Role
Lin Feng first encounters a rift when its F-Class fluctuations force his convoy to detour on the way to the Northern Frontier. He later enters rifts to hunt Exotic Beasts for Martial Path Points, while the defense lines monitor, guard, or contract out openings under their jurisdiction 2 4 20 21.
At the Sixth Defense Line, a newly formed B-Rank rift threatens the cities behind the defenses. Lin Feng enters alone and kills its four Martial King-level beasts, allowing military troops to handle the remaining cleanup 51 52 54.
The East Sea spatial rift becomes an invasion route for the Skyhorn Clan. Its engineers install energy pillars that widen and stabilize the passage; after Lin Feng and the defenders destroy the pillars, damage to the surrounding spatial structure causes the rift to expand rather than close. Feng Yiling later uses a Dragon Vein and his remnant soul to tear an East Sea rift wider, releasing Spatial Turbulence 224 227 229 254.
