September 1 arrived in the blink of an eye. It was the day Luo Feng took over as the Limit Dojo's Supervisor for Jiangnan Base City.
In Jiangnan Base City, about ninety percent of the Limit Dojo's Martial Artists lived in the large residential district where the Limit General Hall was located!
Music had been playing throughout the residential district since early that morning.
Deep inside the district stood a large, three-story building, entirely white. That evening, a grand banquet would be held there to welcome the new Supervisor! A hundred meters around the white hall, a white wooden fence had been set up early, barring outsiders from entering.
A red carpet stretched from the gate in the fence for a hundred meters, all the way to the entrance of the white building's main hall.
Everyone attending the banquet was a person of high standing. Even the least important guest held a position at the director level. Even so, guests kept arriving in an endless stream, and the place was bustling.
Outside the white railing, Ji Yun and Luo Yue stood in a corner.
"Brother Yun," Luo Yue whispered. "You brought me here today, but why does this feel like such a big occasion? I'm a little scared."
"It's fine." Ji Yun gently patted Luo Yue on the back and comforted her softly. "We're not the main characters today. We won't attract any attention."
Then Ji Yun took Luo Yue by the hand and headed for the entrance.
"Hello. May I see your invitation?" the attendant at the door asked politely, showing no disrespect despite how young the two of them looked.
Ji Yun took the invitation from his pocket. It didn't state his identity, but there was no doubt that it was genuine.
"Please, sir." The attendant didn't hesitate. He bowed slightly and smiled as he ushered Ji Yun and Luo Yue inside. Then he returned to his usual manner and let them step onto the red carpet.
"Wow, a red carpet!" Luo Yue walked carefully along it. "I've never walked on one before."
"But am I going to embarrass myself?" Luo Yue bounced twice on the carpet and took a few steps. When she caught sight of Ji Yun's amused expression, she immediately grabbed his arm and whispered to him.
The Black God Set had transformed into a fashionable dark teal suit. It made Ji Yun look less formal, but it was certainly a fine outfit, and it brought out his exceptional bearing.
Still, his youthful face looked rather out of place in this room.
"Sister Xu!" Luo Yue called out softly. Even so, many of the Martial Artists present were quite powerful, and they heard her clearly. Several turned to look.
The Martial Artists immediately grew serious. They had caught sight of Ji Yun's face. These War Gods had seen him in the War God Palace: this young man was the newly appointed Councilor, Ji Yun.
Luo Yue led Ji Yun to a corner of the hall. Following her gaze, Ji Yun saw two women standing there with glasses of wine, chatting.
"Xiao Yue!" The woman Luo Yue had called Sister Xu looked surprised.
"Hehe, Brother Yun, let me introduce you. This is Sister Xu, Xu Xin. She's taken such good care of me."
"Xu Xin? From the Xu family? What's your relationship with Luo Feng?" Hearing that, Ji Yun had more or less figured out what was going on.
So Xu Xin was Luo Feng's girlfriend. When he'd asked Luo Feng for help, he'd actually been asking Xu Xin, too. As it happened, Xu Xin and Luo Yue had already met and become friends before he'd asked.
"I'm Luo Feng's girlfriend. And you are?" Xu Xin replied with a smile.
Although the Xu family wielded considerable influence in the country, even they couldn't easily meet a Councilor who had only ever appeared in the War God Palace. Naturally, Xu Xin, just one member of the Xu family, didn't know who Ji Yun was. Still, she assumed that anyone who could bring a female companion to the banquet must have a respectable background.
"Ji Yun." Now that they had cleared up who everyone was, there was no need to say more. Ji Yun let Luo Yue chat with Xu Xin and sat down on the sofa nearby.
War Gods kept coming over to the corner where Ji Yun was and chatting with him.
Xu Xin occasionally glanced at the unfamiliar young man as well. She was a little shocked: quite a few powerful War Gods were approaching Ji Yun on their own, and they were all extremely respectful toward him.
Could he be a High-Level War God too? Xu Xin couldn't help wondering.
Xu Xin and Luo Yue were chatting happily.
Suddenly, an elderly man and a long-haired young man walked over.
"Elder Xu, who are these two?" The long-haired young man looked at the pair and asked the elderly man beside him.
"This is my granddaughter, Xu Xin," the old man replied with a smile. "The young lady beside her must be one of Xu Xin's friends." He looked at Luo Yue's unfamiliar face. He couldn't remember any family in Jiangnan Base City with a daughter so young who could attend an event like this.
The long-haired young man stepped right up to them and smiled. "Miss Xu, and you too, miss. Nice to meet you. My name is Lei Yufeng."
There was a fervent look in Lei Yufeng's eyes that made Luo Yue very uncomfortable. She couldn't help taking a step back.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Lei Yufeng had barely finished speaking when—
"Supervisor Luo has arrived!" someone called out in the hall. Many people turned toward the entrance.
Xu Xin and the woman beside her also went over. On the hundred-meter-long red carpet, a young man in a black suit was approaching with a smile. Everyone's eyes were fixed on him! His invisible aura was incredibly powerful. As a mighty Psychic Master, his gaze alone made people's hearts tremble!
"Brother Yun, should we go over too?"
At some point, Ji Yun had stood up and come to Luo Yue's side. The two of them moved a little closer to the center of the room, but unlike the others, they didn't go to the entrance to wait for Luo Feng.
"No need. We can just sit here." Ji Yun took Luo Yue back to the sofa, leaned against it, and watched the entrance.
"Heh, he really doesn't hold back." Ji Yun watched.
Luo Feng headed straight for Xu Xin, but his gaze swept over the long-haired young man standing beside her. The young man had already rubbed Ji Yun the wrong way, but Luo Feng had come in just then, so Ji Yun hadn't said anything.
Xu Xin looped her arm through Luo Feng's. After greeting a few people, Luo Feng led her over to Ji Yun.
A group of people who wanted to speak with Luo Feng followed behind him, but after dealing with them, Luo Feng came straight over. At that moment, many people who hadn't noticed Ji Yun and Luo Yue earlier saw Ji Yun sitting there.
"Who are you? Why aren't you greeting Supervisor Luo?"
The long-haired young man saw Ji Yun sitting with the young woman he'd just spoken to. He snorted and asked with a dark expression.
"This is Supervisor Luo's succession banquet. Not just anyone can come in."
"Lei Yufeng, that's enough." The old man who'd come with him grabbed Lei Yufeng and pulled him back. "I'm only pulling you out of this because I'm on good terms with your father. Stop talking."
"Councilor Ji." The middle-aged man who had been introducing people to Luo Feng spoke respectfully. "I didn't expect you to arrive so early."
At that, those who hadn't understood what was going on fell silent, too.
Ji Yun glanced at Lei Yufeng. "There won't be a next time."
"Don't mind me. I'm just here for a bit of excitement."
The banquet was somewhat tense. The Limit Dojo and the Thunder Dojo had been rivals for a long time, so they naturally clashed on many fronts.
All of a sudden—
"What!" A cry of alarm rang through the hall, silencing everyone. They looked over in surprise. The one who had shouted was a middle-aged man in military uniform. He seemed to be a commander from one of the military regions, with the same rank as the commander of the Jinnan Military Region.
"I'm heading back right now!"
"Commander Li, what's wrong?" someone beside him asked.
"This is bad. The sea monsters have engaged the Southeast Military Region's front line." The commander spoke solemnly. His words caused an uproar throughout the hall.
"What level?" the man asked at once.
"Level 1 Beast Tide."
Everyone in the hall was stunned. Ji Yun was taken aback, too. The Beast Tide he had helped the Jinnan Military Region fight at the beginning of the year had also been Level 1. But Bohai Bay was relatively narrow, and Jiangnan Military Region, facing the East Sea directly, was under a much greater threat.
"A Level 1 Beast Tide has broken out. I have to head back at once. I hope any War Gods here who can help will lend a hand when the time comes!" The middle-aged commander looked around at the crowd. Quite a few War Gods were present, and his gaze even flicked discreetly toward Ji Yun several times.
"Commander Li, there's no time to lose. Let's go now," said the newly appointed Supervisor, Luo Feng, decisively, stepping over to stand beside the commander.
"Councilor Ji, might I ask if you'd be willing to—?"
The commander looked at Ji Yun with hopeful eyes. A newly appointed Councilor could easily disguise himself as a War God and help relieve the military region's immense pressure. With him there, this Beast Tide might not even be a problem.
"I've already fought the sea monsters and revealed myself. If I fight again, it'll draw out a King Rank Monster." Ji Yun said only that.
"Oh," Commander Li replied, a little disappointed.
"War Gods, this is urgent. Let's leave now." Commander Li led the way out of the hall. In an instant, only family members and civilian staff remained in the vast hall. After all, the main guests of the banquet had left.
No matter where they struck, a sea-monster tide was terrifying. The military region's War Base had no naturally advantageous pass like Jinnan did, so casualties would be heavy.
September 29, a little after two in the afternoon.
Ji Yun wore the best S-class Combat Suit manufactured on Earth and carried a long spear on his back. Unless you paid close attention, you would hardly notice him; his whole figure seemed to blend into the wind.
Ji Yun planned to enter the No. 9 Civilization Ruins with Luo Feng and the others.
"Ji Yun, you're here." A dark blue aircraft descended from the sky and circled above Ji Yun's residence in Jiangnan Base City.
"Xiao Yue, I don't know how long I'll be gone this time. While I'm away, take good care of yourself."
After giving her some instructions, Ji Yun strapped the long spear to his back, put the Black God Set in a case, and shot into the sky, entering the dark blue intelligent aircraft.
The dark blue triangular aircraft quickly climbed, leaving the airspace protected by Jiangnan Base City's defenses. It then turned into a streak of light and headed for the Limit Dojo Global Headquarters.
It took about an hour.
Hongning Base City. The Limit Dojo Global Headquarters was a colossal structure built from an ancient spaceship. A dark blue triangular aircraft slowly descended onto the landing pad beside the enormous vessel.
"Let's go. All the information about Ruins No. 9 is in there."
The hatch opened, and Ji Yun and Luo Feng walked out, one after the other.
