There Is No Medicine for Regret in This World

In the mirror, Wang Ya wore a simple gray robe. He had black hair and black eyes, a notably high nose bridge, and mixed features. A tear mole at the corner of his eye added a touch of soft charm.

His gaze was profound, as though it held the vastness of a starry sky within it.

He rubbed his damp hair, and his bangs fell over his forehead and brows, with a few strands sticking to the bridge of his nose.

Wang Ya shook his head and walked out of the washroom. Harak's transformation in the room was nearly complete as well.

Its size, appearance, and altered traits had completely stabilized.

The glossy black speckles on its feathers had fully replaced the old ones, making it look even darker. Within Dark Shadows, it was impossible to distinguish with the naked eye.

Those glossy black-speckled feathers seemed to possess some Supernatural Characteristics, allowing it to resist certain Spiritual Power perceptions and low-level detection wizardry.

Its resistance to Particle Energy Wizardry likely served a similar purpose.

The feathers around its head lay close to its neck vertebrae, giving it a streamlined form. Its pupils were blood-red.

Rather than curving into hooks, its beak had become perfectly straight. The very tip was visibly sharp and possessed tremendous killing power.

Wang Ya beckoned, and Harak immediately flapped over, landing steadily on his shoulder.

Its two black, metallic claws had also developed tissues that repelled and floated on water. It could perfectly retract its talons and rest the soft parts against Wang Ya's shoulder.

It was exactly the same size as when Wang Ya had first bought this Crow, small and delicate.

But it was far from light. It weighed heavily on him, as though he were carrying dozens of pounds of iron.

Notice: Transformation complete. Harak has gained three new Supernatural Characteristics. Target: Black Feather Crow Constitution: 11 Spirit: 1.3 Status: Low-tier Supernatural Being Traits: Iron Claws, Steel Skin, Basic Particle Wizardry Resistance, Blood Burning Dash, Basic Invisibility

With its Constitution exceeding 10, even without relying on its many Supernatural Characteristics, it could be considered a Low-tier Supernatural Being.

The equivalent among Wizards was a First-level Wizard Apprentice.

"Not bad, little fellow. That tiny head of yours has finally grown a bit wiser."

Wang Ya tapped Harak's forehead with a finger.

So far, he was quite satisfied with the transformation.

Though this size had lost its massive body and intimidation factor, an assassin lurking in the shadows was far better than some oversized brute.

More importantly, it suited Wang Ya's aesthetic.

A Wizard in a Wizard Robe with a black Crow perched on his shoulder was always better than having some big-mouthed bird flapping enormous wings behind him and whipping up violent gusts.

Compared to before its mutation, its massive body could not catch up to the small figure darting through the shadows. Its sharper, harder talons would tear apart everything.

As for the many Thorn Sea Beasts still roaming the Wizard Ship, Harak would not fear their group attacks. And darkness was no longer their home ground.

A membrane covered its blood-red bird eyes, allowing it to capture any trace of heat and the outlines of movement.

He just did not know how long this crisis would last, or what Wizard Tuta's situation was like.

Wang Ya raised a brow, stopping with his hand on the door.

Better to wait. Wait for the darkness outside to disappear.

There would always be an outcome.

I'm going to die!

Rowena panicked. The flush on his face proved that he had used every ounce of strength to resist the Thorn Sea Beast pressing down on him.

Its Face Mask had opened, revealing a gaping maw lined with savage, parallel rows of sharp teeth. It kept drawing closer, and the foul-smelling liquid dripping from it splashed onto his cheeks.

Yet he still could not stop that gaping maw from approaching. Bone spikes pierced through his hands, blood dripping down as his grip gradually weakened and slipped loose.

He could have survived. He really could have.

If only he had been a little stronger, he could have held on. If only he had been a little stronger, he could have survived.

Scenes from his time at the Wizard Exchange Meeting flashed through his mind: his shy speech, the cheers of the freshmen, then the pleasure of receiving applause, over and over again.

But he had fallen short. Just barely short.

At the instant the gaping maw bit down completely, Rowena felt nothing but regret.

If only he had worked harder, been more diligent while practicing the Wizard Meditation Method, and let Particle Energy Radiation temper his Wizard Body a little longer. He could have lived. He should have lived. His aptitude was incomparably outstanding. He was one of the top freshmen. This should never have been his ending.

He could not help thinking of the two Newborn Wizards who had gone out to collect food and wandered off alone. But he was not given that much time for his life to flash before his eyes. With a wet crunch, his head was bitten off.

The Thorn Sea Beast chewed and tore at him, thrilled beyond measure.

Lifeforms with Supernatural Characteristics could serve as Experimental Material for Wizards.

Conversely, Wizard Bodies altered by Particle Energy Radiation, along with the refined particle energy within them, were also intensely desired by Supernatural Lifeforms.

Not far ahead, Orson's corpse had long since been torn apart. Purple hair clung to strips of scalp, mixed with scraps of clothing.

The floor was soaked in blood, marked by a trail where something had been dragged.

Bang!

The sound of the door being struck was so loud that Arthur, hiding in the room, trembled in fear.

They had caught up. Those terrifying monsters!

He had clearly already fed Rowena and Orson to them, yet they were still so greedy.

Bookshelves, tables, chairs, even the bed had all been shoved against the door.

Arthur had little faith in any of it. The Thorn Sea Beasts' powerful physiques and hard bodies were enough to smash through the door, forcibly tear open a gap, and squeeze inside.

He was like a rat trapped in a jar, able only to wait for death and be eaten.

"Damn it, how could I possibly die here? I'm the Wizard Freshman with the best aptitude."

Arthur glared with wide eyes and cursed furiously. "You sons of bitches, there are so many Wizard Freshmen out there. Go eat them all. You can eat every last one of them."

"Those two bastards who chose Supernatural Nurturing should be the ones getting eaten. They even keep Nurtured Creatures. Go eat them! Why come after me? I guarantee you'll be full."

Bang!

The door was struck even more violently, and a crack appeared. The Thorn Sea Beast's eye emerged, staring at him with greedy hunger.

Arthur's face was filled with resentment as he pulled out a Red Metal Ring hanging from his chest.

"Damn monster. You're forcing me to expose my greatest secret. Wizard Tuta is still on the ship. If he finds out about this opportunity, will he take it from me?"

"My aptitude is the best. I have a great chance of advancing to a Formal Wizard. Finding this opportunity proves that I'm a true genius. Wizard Tuta wouldn't be stupid enough to do that."

Arthur kept telling himself this as he glared hatefully at the Thorn Sea Beast that had already forced its head through the opening.

All the particle energy in his body was instantly drained and poured into it. Only then did the Red Metal Ring slowly emit a faint glow.

He had found it as a youth on the Island Continent where he lived. It was only after boarding the Wizard Ship that he learned a little of the ring's true nature.

It was a genuine Wizard's Storage Wizard Artifact, containing quite a few things. His particle energy and Spiritual Power could only barely open it for an instant.

Among them were Wizardry Scrolls recorded in the Umbral Codex, made and used by Wizards.

Simply tearing one open could unleash powerful wizardry. After so many days of probing with Spiritual Power, this was the only item he had identified and was confident he could retrieve.

The glow flashed and vanished. A weathered Parchment Scroll had appeared in Arthur's hand. The Wizard Runes written on it meant: 'Particle Energy WizardryExplosion of Fire.'

"Monster, die!" Arthur laughed excitedly as he tore open the scroll and aimed it at the Thorn Sea Beast.

He could already see the monster's miserable end.
