Wang Ya washed his face in the washroom. In the mirror, his skin was fair and his features handsome, but much of the color had drained from his lips, leaving them somewhat pale. His dark amber pupils held gravity, along with a trace of gloom.
He wanted to believe it was an illusion, wanted to believe his suspicions were false—that things could not possibly have developed to such a serious extent. But he could not deceive himself. When he had left Ancient Forest Tower during the day, Wizard Gandhi's gaze had revealed a flicker of malice.
What should he do? He could kill Arthur because he had sufficient ability.
But what could he use to deal with Wizard Gandhi's malice?
The few low-level wizardries he had mastered, against a Rank 2 Wizard Apprentice? What a joke.
Even Green Venom would be useless. That body strengthened by radiation might directly resist its effects, or perhaps before he even had the chance to act, the other party's powerful Spiritual Power would strike him and knock him unconscious.
The two sides were fundamentally unequal, whether in strength or in their understanding and mastery of Supernatural Knowledge.
Three Wizardry Scrolls? A Veteran Wizard of that caliber possessed immensely rich combat experience. He could activate a Particle Energy Shield at any moment and counterattack the instant he detected an Energy Fluctuation.
Wizardry Scrolls required activation time. Even one second, half a second, would be enough for a powerful Wizard to react.
Before the Wizardry Scrolls could take effect, he would crush Wang Ya as easily as an ant.
This was perhaps the greatest crisis Wang Ya had ever faced. All the clues seemed to point toward Wizard Gandhi.
When Wizard Yis and the other three Wizards were absent, the rules of Ancient Forest Mountain naturally became whatever Gandhi said they were.
The Dagger was inserted into a specially made glass bottle that served as its sheath. Bright green Supernatural Toxin rippled within it, reflecting a dazzling gleam beneath the lights.
The handsome face in the mirror wore a cold expression, his eyes narrowing. Even if things truly were as he suspected, he bet Wizard Gandhi would not expose himself, nor could he possibly act against him directly.
Wizard Killers existed to do the dirty work for those hiding behind the scenes. Wizard Yis's rules still carried deterrent force.
Never underestimate a truly powerful Wizard. If Wizard Gandhi dared to act, there was a chance Wizard Yis would notice. The traces left behind after taking action could not be hidden.
Wang Ya would not be one hundred percent certain, but he would still prepare every countermeasure he needed and give it his all!!
The Automated Restaurant remained as deserted as ever, with hardly any Wizard Freshmen in sight. Wang Ya looked as usual. Alone at a corner table, he finished all his food, returned the tray, and left.
The unchanging Ancient Forest scenery stretched around him, Wizard Array Paths threading through it and warding off some of the dangers from the ancient woods.
Wang Ya returned to the Freshman Residence with practiced ease. If not for yesterday's murder and what had happened at Ancient Forest Tower, he might truly have believed Ancient Forest Mountain was still the same Ancient Forest Mountain as before. But in the end, it was different. Beneath the surging undercurrents, no one knew whether the deaths of Freshmen would one day happen to them.
Mist concealed the Freshman Residence, while the power of the wizard array had been adjusted to its maximum. Wang Ya inspected every inch of the residence inside and out, then spent a great deal of time making several arrangements.
He spent the entire afternoon in his Personal Laboratory, exhausting all his Particle Energy. After being nurtured, the Green Poison Original Solution produced another amount of Green Venom.
He placed the three Wizardry Scrolls at three special points throughout the residence, ready to trigger them in response to different circumstances.
With Wizard Gandhi's permission, Ancient Forest Pavilion had also gained a gathering space for the Wizard Mutual Aid Association.
As they walked through the broad, long corridor, the atmosphere between the man and woman became increasingly ambiguous beneath the warm lights. They spoke to each other, seemingly exchanging sweet nothings.
A blush appeared on Anna's fair cheeks. "That's all I know. But why are you asking about this? Wang Ya-Harak is the only one with a tear mole on his face. Why would he impersonate the dead Arthur?"
Moxi did not answer Anna's curiosity. Instead, he gazed at her gently and said with a smile, "I thought this Freshman was rather good and wanted to invite him into the Wizard Mutual Aid Association. I never expected him to refuse in such a way. Sigh!"
Moxi sighed. Anna frowned. "This Freshman, Wang Ya-Harak, does not have outstanding Wizard Aptitude. His personality is rather withdrawn, and he is stubborn as well. He chose the Supernatural Nurturing Series, which progresses slowly and lacks a clear goal. Sooner or later, Ancient Forest Mountain will eliminate him. There is no need to invite him in at all."
"Alright, alright, I'll listen to you. After all, you are also the master of the Wizard Mutual Aid Association. The Supernatural Resources supported by the family should naturally be given to those who truly need them. You can distribute them from now on." Moxi used a finger to scrape Anna's nose.
Her face flushed scarlet as she buried herself in Moxi's arms. If she had raised her head even slightly, she would have seen the teasing, mocking look in Moxi's eyes.
After the two parted, Moxi's eyes turned thoughtful. Then, a chilling smile curled across his lips.
Night!
The cold wind howled, ancient trees trembled, and countless branches and leaves rustled. It was even darker than the previous night, as though a black curtain had covered the sky. Even the fluorescent light along the Wizard Array Paths had been suppressed somewhat.
Vague Shadow Silhouettes twisted among the branches like demons. This Freshman Residence was shrouded in thick Mist. The wind could not stir it, nor could anyone see clearly what lay within.
A silhouette emerged from the darkness and vanished into the Mist.
A faint hiss, hiss, like melting snow, sounded as the Mist's Energy Radiation was neutralized by another surge of Particle Energy. A thick arm extended from beneath the robe, its fingers and Fingernails covered in scales, sharp and pointed. It gripped a black longsword roughly one meter long.
Dark light flowed over the blade, which emitted an impossible-to-ignore sharpness. A faint particle halo spread from the sword, disrupting the Mist's particle frequency and gradually thinning it, until the building outline of the Freshman Residence within became visible.
Number Two's expression was numb, his pupils cold and lifeless. Even with the interference of the Shadow Blade of Assassination, the all-pervasive Mist still tried to affect his Five Senses. The blood vessels beneath his facial skin bulged, black veins lacing his pupils. The activation of his Bloodline Power allowed him to resist the Mist.
In a sense, he was not a true Wizard. He had never undergone Meditation himself; he had been modified through Wizardry Experiments. The Mist that a First-level Wizard Apprentice could resist with powerful Spiritual Power still affected him. His combat strength had merely reached that level.
A new command appeared in his mind.
Kill the Freshman inside this Freshman Residence.
