Background

Qing Lin was repeatedly bullied and called a “mongrel” because of the small green scales on her face. Before meeting Xiao Chen, she lacked even the first stage of Dou Qi and kept her head lowered around others because of the judgment directed at her appearance. 13 16

She is connected to the Desert Iron Mercenary Group, whose commanders Xiao Ding and Xiao Li treat her well. After Xiao Chen rescues her from mercenaries in Shimo City, she brings him to the group’s base and introduces him to the commanders. 16

Qing Lin is a slight girl of around twelve or thirteen when she first appears, with a thin frame and tattered clothing. 13

After Xiao Chen protects and trains her, she becomes more confident while remaining deeply grateful and loyal to him. She readily agrees to attempt difficult tasks for him, including using her pupils to locate the Fire Spirit Snake despite doubting her own mastery. 20 21

By Chapter 31, she has begun accepting her distinctive scales and resolves to become strong rather than viewing herself as a person of ill omen. 31

Snake-Person Conflict

Qing Lin remains beside Xiao Chen when Yue Mei leads Snake-People into Shimo City. Frightened that she has caused him trouble, she is reassured and protected by him. 14

She later witnesses Xiao Chen defeat the Snake-Person Great Elder and Queen Medusa. Her truthful account of the latter battle spreads throughout the Desert Iron Mercenary Group. 18 27 28

At Xiao Chen’s request, Qing Lin attempts to use her Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils to locate the Fire Spirit Snake, believing it may lead them to the Green Lotus Core Flame. Though hesitant because she has not mastered her eyes, she agrees to try. 21
