Xia Tianming lowered his head, his gaze calm as he stared at the horrific wound that had appeared on his abdomen.
If an ordinary person were struck by a 12mm machine gun round, their stomach would have been shredded and their intestines ruptured, leading to an immediate, agonizing death.
Yet, despite suffering such a grievous injury, he felt no blood or organ fragments spilling out, nor did he feel the expected agony; it was as if the organs within his body no longer existed, as if the body itself no longer belonged to him.
In truth, organs like the heart and lungs were merely burdens to the body; once ruptured, they would severely limit one's mobility.
Thus, the Blacklight Virus had consumed the organs within its host, as the virus alone provided all the nutrients required to sustain life!
Xia Tianming did not yet realize that he could no longer be considered a human.
Or rather, he was the virus itself...
Although this wound could not kill him, having a fist-sized hole in his abdomen felt uncomfortable.
He reached out and grabbed a nearby zombie, killing and consuming it to provide nutrients for the virus within him.
Once the Blacklight Virus ingested the delicious nutrients, it began to boil within Xia Tianming once more; dense, writhing viral tendrils extended from the horrific gunshot wound on his abdomen, weaving together frantically!
In less than three seconds, the gunshot wound on his abdomen was completely filled by viral tentacles, forming new skin; even his clothes were automatically repaired, leaving no trace of having been pierced by the machine gun fire!
It could be said that as long as there was a source of nutrients nearby, Xia Tianming was an unkillable existence!
However, he could hide for a moment, but not for a lifetime; once these zombies were wiped out, he would inevitably be exposed to the enemy's line of sight.
Who were those people, and why did they open fire in his direction without a word?
But one thing was certain: there were no good people in this apocalypse.
Everyone had become deceitful and treacherous just to survive.
After all, in this apocalyptic world, morality, law, and ethics no longer existed.
Only survival was the absolute truth.
So, rather than sitting and waiting for death, Xia Tianming decided to take the initiative.
He lowered his posture, using the horde of zombies as cover, and charged toward the source of the gunfire while dodging stray bullets through viral intuition!
He transformed his hands into Blacklight Claws to protect his head; bullets striking the incredibly hard biomass blades only sparked off the surface.
Even if other parts of his body were hit, he could heal and repair himself by grabbing and consuming other zombies along the way.
However, Xia Tianming discovered that no matter how he dodged or used erratic movements to circle around, the enemy's trajectory always precisely tracked his position, as if someone were exposing his location to them.
If that was the case, he would stop hiding altogether!
Xia Tianming straightened his body and thrust both claws out, skewering several zombies like a string of candied haws!
Then, he used these still-twitching zombies as meat shields, accelerating in a straight line toward the perimeter of the horde!
Since the enemy was clearly targeting him, there was no need to skulk around any longer!
Meanwhile, Captain Kromi, who was operating the heavy machine gun, received a notification from the observer: the target had stopped hiding and was accelerating toward their position, using several zombies as meat shields to block the bullets.
"Hmph, finally decided to stop acting like a turtle?"
Captain Kromi let out a cold snort and began to deploy his forces.
"Everyone, assume combat formation immediately! Gunners, take positions behind the tanks and armored vehicles. Once the target appears, fire at his limbs to restrict his movement. Helicopters, circle the flanks, observe and report the target's movements within the horde in real-time, and wait for orders before firing!"
Their mission was to capture the infected subject alive. According to the observer, the target possessed a certain degree of regenerative ability; as long as they didn't destroy his head, he shouldn't be easy to kill.
The Black Hawk Helicopter was equipped with a Vulcan cannon designed to deal with heavy armor like tanks; if fired at a human body, a single round would likely tear them to pieces, which was why he had ordered them to stand by.
The combat formation was set; now they only waited for the target to burst out of the horde and expose himself to the military's view.
They waited for about a minute.
The group noticed that the zombie horde in one direction began to stir; it was clear the target would appear at that location!
The soldiers immediately shifted their muzzles, locking onto that direction, waiting for the target to emerge.
Yet, after waiting for quite a while, there was no sign of the target.
Captain Kromi grew impatient and asked the observer in the circling helicopter via radio: "Do you see the target?"
"Report, sir, negative. The horde in your direction is chaotic, and we cannot pinpoint the target," the observer in the helicopter replied truthfully.
"What?!"
Captain Kromi frowned upon hearing this and asked the observer who was monitoring via satellite, but the answer was the same: they could not distinguish the target.
What was going on? Could that guy turn invisible?
Just as the group focused their attention on the agitated horde in front of them, a "zombie" squeezed out of the horde in a different direction, tilting its head slightly to observe the military.
If one looked closely, they would see that its clothes were merely tattered, and while its face and body were stained with foul-smelling blood, its skin was not rotting like the other zombies.
That's right, this "zombie" was none other than Xia Tianming.
Calm and cautious, he had decided not to act rashly before confirming the enemy's strength, instead using physical camouflage to observe them while disguised as a zombie.
As for the agitated horde that had attracted the enemy's attention, that was caused by a single Blacklight Virus tendril he had left attached to a zombie to create a distraction.
And now that he had seen the enemies attacking him, he realized with shock—they were the military?
In this apocalypse, to think that organized and disciplined troops actually existed!
However, upon seeing the red and white umbrella logo on the Black Hawk Helicopter and the tanks, he, having once watched the Resident Evil movies, instantly understood.
So, in this world, the Umbrella Corporation had not yet been wiped out.
Xia Tianming also realized why he had been exposed; the Sky Eye Satellite of the Umbrella Corporation covered the entire globe.
No matter where he went, as long as he revealed his true form or was in the middle of "feeding," he would inevitably be detected by them.
Obsessed with virus research, the Umbrella Corporation would never let go of a special existence like him, and would harass him at every possible moment.
In this world, what posed a threat to him were not the zombies lurking in every corner, but the Umbrella Corporation that had created this biochemical apocalypse!
Therefore, if he wanted to cleanse this world, he had to resolve this trouble first!
I wonder, compared to the Blackwatch, the sworn enemy of the Blacklight Virus in the past, which one would prove to be superior?
