Background / History

The Blacklight Virus first manifests after Xia Tianming arrives in the Resident Evil world. His initial mission is to eradicate the T- and G-Viruses and “purify” the world. Surrounded by zombies, he discovers that Blacklight tentacles can shred and absorb organic matter almost instantly, converting the remains into viral nutrients and raising the Blacklight Threshold 1.

Its early evolution is driven by predation. The virus consumes zombies, mutated organisms, and hostile viral strains; the T-Virus cannot infect its carrier because the Blacklight Virus devours it upon entry. By the time the first threshold is reached, it has formed viral weapons and begins treating the zombie population as a nutrient source rather than a threat 2 3.

The virus is not wholly dependent on Xia Tianming’s conscious control. When his brain is destroyed during the Tyrant conflict, viral tentacles reconstruct his head and the Blacklight Virus temporarily operates his body on its own, continuing to feed and fight 19. Xia Tianming later identifies himself not merely as infected, but as the Blacklight Virus itself 27.

After evolving through Wesker’s clones, the virus develops the ability to implant itself in other organisms, turning “purification” into an expanding doctrine.
