Background

Venom originated from a Symbiote world where it occupied the lowest social class and was routinely bullied by stronger members of its species. It was sent to another world by Doctor Strange, hoping to escape that status and rise to the top of the Symbiote race. 73 266

Before bonding with Eddie, Venom possessed Kira Yoshikage. It later abandoned Kira for the more compatible Eddie, but left a Symbiote seed inside Kira; that seed eventually mutated into Toxin. 83

On Earth, fragments and offspring connected to Venom produced several other Symbiotes, including Carnage, Toxin, Riot, Agony, and others. Venom viewed these descendants as rivals rather than family, as Symbiotes typically fought one another until one devoured the other. Carnage in particular was born from an egg Venom accidentally produced and became far stronger after bonding with serial killer Cletus Kasady. 73 75

Appearance

Venom normally manifests as a large, black, humanoid monster with a fanged maw and large white eyes. Its body is highly malleable and changes substantially after each fusion. 73 76 84

Personality

Venom is aggressive, sharp-tongued, vain, and easily provoked. It reacts especially badly to insults about its appearance, declaring itself the most handsome being in the Symbiote galaxy. 95

Despite its bravado, Venom is highly survival-driven. When overwhelmed by Xia Tianming, it repeatedly flees, sacrifices portions of its own body, uses civilians as hostages, and manipulates conflicts among other Symbiotes to gain opportunities to merge with them. 77 79 80

After becoming a Blacklight Symbiote, Venom accepts Xia Tianming as its master and shows loyalty, though it retains its sadistic appetite, boastfulness, and desire for recognition. It volunteers for dangerous assignments, leads Blacklight forces, and enjoys public admiration while disguised as Hooded Hero. 87 102 176 312

Symbiote Fusion Crisis

While fleeing Xia, Venom reunites with Carnage, then exploits Toxin's sacrifice and Serum's vulnerability to build itself into a four-Symbiote hostless form. It temporarily overwhelms Xia Tianming, destroys much of Tokyo City Hall, and declares itself the top of the food chain. 76 80 84 85

Defeat and Blacklight Rebirth

Venom is overwhelmed by Blacklight Infected created from Xia Tianming's blood mist and is consumed by a giant viral aggregate. Xia subsequently recreates it as a Blacklight Symbiote, converting a former enemy into a subordinate. 86 87
