Background / History

Xia Leng spent his earliest remembered years alone, scavenging food from landfills, sleeping in cardboard boxes, and fighting stray animals for shelter. He was eventually sent to an orphanage, but has no memory of either parent. 10

Before the apocalypse, he was a 17-year-old university student. Introverted and poor with words, he had made virtually no friends by the end of his first semester. He avoided the Black Rain by sleeping in his dormitory while most of the school attended an anniversary celebration outside. 1

Five years after the Black Rain transformed most of humanity into living corpses, Xia Leng survived as a solitary drifter. He once lived in a survivor camp, but betrayal left him with a long scar across his back and destroyed his trust in other people; his original bone blade was made from the leg bone of the person who betrayed him. 2 6

After being captured and tortured by a Hunter-type Baptized One's drifter camp, Xia Leng's Blacklight Virus manifested. He killed the Hunter, absorbed the crystal in his skull, and received fragmented memories connected to experiments, modifications, the Blacklight Virus, and the coordinates of the Land of Corpse Cold. This became his central objective. 8 10

Appearance

Xia Leng is a deceptively slender, fair-skinned young man whose physique conceals abnormal physical power. Since fusing with the Blacklight Virus, his skin has become nearly flawless and unusually pale for the wasteland. 16 18 35

He is cautious and calculating under pressure. Xia Leng exploits opponents' arrogance, uses terrain and traps to compensate for stronger enemies, and suppresses his more conspicuous abilities in public to avoid becoming a mercenary company's research subject. 6 16 29

The Blacklight Virus further erodes his emotional attachment to humanity. Fear is largely absent from his reactions, while devouring Baptized Ones and living corpses can trigger exhilaration, predatory hunger, and a violent combat state. 11 21 30 46
