(This book follows the path of the Martial Soul Hall.)
(Chrysanthemum Douluo will appear directly in chapter 20, and will find the protagonist in chapter 22.)
Bala Kingdom
Flower Grass Village
The village earned its name because the martial souls of most villagers are various types of exotic flowers and grasses.
A middle-aged man wearing square-rimmed glasses with a rather wretched appearance was currently flying toward Flower Grass Village with a pair of wings sprouted from his back.
Just as he approached the village, before he could even clearly see its outline, a fragrance rushed toward his face.
Flender felt a wave of fresh floral scent wash over him.
Flender sniffed, his face revealing surprise: "Why is it so fragrant?"
Flender continued forward, arriving beside a waterfall and looking down.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
Accompanied by the sound of the surging waterfall at his side, Flender saw a small village filled with blooming flowers at the foot of the mountain.
There were not many people in the village, adding up to only a little over a hundred.
"I never imagined there would be such a beautiful place in the Bala Kingdom."
Flender spread his wings and flew down, entering Flower Grass Village.
Upon arriving inside the village, that floral scent became increasingly distinct; even the air itself was fragrant.
And it was not pungent at all.
"It's a pity this place is still a bit of a distance from Suotuo City, otherwise I would really want to move my academy here."
Flender did not hide his figure.
Quite a few people saw him flying down from the mountain.
The villagers of Flower Grass Village gathered around one after another and asked Flender respectfully: "May we ask what business brings this Lord Soul Master to our Flower Grass Village?"
"Flower Grass Village?"
Flender raised an eyebrow slightly.
A few days ago, he had gone to a place called Grass Chicken Village and picked up a phoenix soul master with Innate Soul Power of level nine.
He hadn't expected to accidentally stumble upon a Flower Grass Village today.
Flender suddenly felt a sense of intuition, thinking that this was simply a destiny ordained by the heavens.
His mind began to fantasize about being lucky enough to pick up another little monster to take back.
His eyes flickered with the craftiness unique to a merchant.
He looked at the villagers and asked: "I am from the Martial Soul Hall in Suotuo City. I am just passing through and wanted to ask if your village has any children who have reached the age of six and haven't awakened their martial souls yet. If there are, since I happen to be free, I might as well help them awaken."
Hearing this, the villagers' faces immediately revealed expressions of pleasant surprise. They bowed and thanked Flender one after another: "Thank you, Lord Soul Master! Our village does indeed have a few children who haven't awakened their martial souls yet. We will go call them over right away."
As he spoke, an older man stepped forward and led Flender to their village's Martial Soul Hall.
Though it was called a Martial Soul Hall, it was actually just a thatched hut.
Inside, there was only a pedestal that looked like it was used to hold the crystal ball for testing soul power.
Although the environment was crude, Flender was long accustomed to such things.
Soon, villagers led six children over.
Seeing that there were only six, Flender was greatly disappointed.
Awakening a martial soul was like opening a blind box;
the more you open, the higher the probability of getting something golden.
However, since Flender had already said he would help, he naturally would not go back on his word.
He had the children enter the six-pointed star formation he had already prepared, one by one.
"Martial soul Blue Silver Grass, waste martial soul, no soul power. Next."
"Martial soul Lone Bamboo, waste martial soul, level one soul power. Cultivate well, and you might have a chance to become a soul master in the future."
"Martial soul Rose, plant-type martial soul, level two soul power. If you can become a soul master in the future, you could go work as a gardener for a noble family."
"..."
Soon, it was the turn of the last child, Lu Fan.
Upon seeing Lu Fan, Flender's eyes lit up.
The child before him looked different from the others.
He was the type who could be locked onto at a single glance when placed in a crowd.
"Come, step forward."
Flender urged, already impatient to open this blind box.
Having reached the final step, Lu Fan naturally would not shrink back.
Hardening his heart, he stepped into the awakening formation and began to awaken his Martial Soul.
"Raise your right hand."
Seeing light surging into Lu Fan's right hand, Flender knew that Lu Fan's Martial Soul would certainly manifest there.
Hearing this, Lu Fan raised his right hand, looking expectantly at the Martial Soul he was about to awaken.
A large yellow flower appeared on his right hand.
This large flower had petals like eagle claws, layered one upon another.
A faint, refreshing fragrance drifted from the bloom.
Flender frowned: "It's actually just an ordinary chrysanthemum."
He shook his head, thinking to himself that he must have lost his mind to believe that just because the boy was good-looking, he would awaken a powerful Martial Soul.
If that were truly the case, then he and his brothers wouldn't even have the qualifications to become Spirit Masters.
"Let's test your Innate Soul Power..."
However, before Flender could finish speaking.
A sudden change occurred.
Flender felt a powerful suction force constantly pulling at his own spirit power.
At first, he was somewhat startled by this anomaly.
But immediately, he realized exactly what was happening.
"Martial Soul mutation!"
He looked at Lu Fan with eager eyes, or more precisely, at the chrysanthemum in his hand.
If it is mutating, it must be developing in a positive direction. After all, a chrysanthemum is a trash Martial Soul to begin with; there's nowhere left for it to mutate into something worse.
First, the size of the chrysanthemum began to grow, and then its petals shifted from yellow to purple.
"Has it turned into a poison attribute?"
Watching the chrysanthemum change from yellow to purple, Flender initially thought it had been poisoned.
However, the flower's transformation did not stop there.
It continued.
A moment later.
A large, gorgeous flower with purple petals and golden stamens rested quietly in Lu Fan's hand. The petals were velvety, odorless and tasteless, with tall stamens and golden light flickering at the tips.
The stem stood straight, purple tinged with gold, exuding an faintly overbearing aura.
"This is?"
Flender stared at the flower in Lu Fan's hand. He felt a vague sense of familiarity, as if he had seen it somewhere before, but for the life of him, he couldn't recall where.
"What is your Martial Soul?"
Flender asked.
Lu Fan shook his head: "I don't know. It seems to have changed from a chrysanthemum into another kind of flower."
Flender rolled his eyes at this: "As if I couldn't see that."
Nevertheless, he waved his hand, signaling for Lu Fan to come up and test his Innate Soul Power.
"Your Martial Soul is definitely a positive mutation. It is visibly much more powerful than that little chrysanthemum from before. Your Innate Soul Power shouldn't be lower than level five."
Lu Fan, also full of anticipation, placed his hand on the pale blue crystal ball, curious about how much of a boost a positive Martial Soul mutation would grant him.
Whoosh!
In an instant.
The originally pale blue crystal ball was instantly filled with dazzling blue light.
"Innate Full Soul Power!"
Seeing this, Flender was dumbfounded.
He had never seen Innate Full Soul Power in his entire life.
The most talented individual he had ever seen was the little fatty he had recruited from Grass Chicken Village a few days ago due to his Martial Soul awakening.
But even that fellow only had level nine Innate Soul Power, and his Martial Soul had defects.
"I truly didn't expect such an unexpected joy today."
Watching Lu Fan's Innate Full Soul Power, Flender grinned from ear to ear.
"Since I awakened this child, he is destined to be with my Shrek Academy!"
As Lu Fan awakened the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum.
Far away in Martial Soul City, Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan suddenly felt a sensation.
He sensed an aura that shared the same origin as his own.
But by the time he tried to confirm it, that aura had already vanished.
