Background / History

Lu Fan was born in Flower Grass Village. During his martial soul awakening, an ordinary chrysanthemum in his hand positively mutated into a purple-and-gold flower, and his Innate Full Soul Power was confirmed. The village chief later identified the martial soul through the Hundred Herbs Chart as the legendary Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, the martial soul associated with Chrysanthemum Douluo. 1 2

For his first soul ring, Lu Fan chose a metal-attributed Iron Thorn to strengthen his defensive foundation. Flender subdued the approximately three-hundred-year soul beast, and Lu Fan personally finished it before absorbing its yellow soul ring. 4 5 He formally accepted Flender as his master after negotiating permission to grow chrysanthemums on Shrek Academy’s back mountain and a tuition waiver. 5

At Shrek, Lu Fan formed a three-person combat arrangement with Ma Hongjun and Oscar: Lu Fan served as defense, Oscar as support, and Ma Hongjun as the power attacker. Flender advised him to conceal his Innate Full Soul Power and use the name “Lu Guan” to avoid attracting dangerous attention. 6 Lu Fan subsequently created a chrysanthemum-based mimic cultivation environment around the academy, planting tens of thousands of seeds and increasing his cultivation efficiency by twenty percent. 7 8

Lu Fan later left Shrek willingly to train under Yue Guan, Chrysanthemum Douluo, whose martial soul matched his own. He promised Flender that he would return for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. 24 25 Under Yue Guan’s protection and Martial Soul Hall’s resources, he received medicinal baths, Whale Rubber, soul-hunting support, a private courtyard, a dedicated mimic cultivation environment, and access to Immortal Herbs. 26 31 36 57

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Lu Fan used Immortal Herbs to improve both himself and his allies. After consuming the Blazing Apricot Delicate, Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass, and a Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum Immortal Herb, his martial soul evolved from a celestial flower into a sovereign among plant-type martial souls with ultimate metal and wood attributes. 56 60 63 64 Its later manifestation became a Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum Tree bearing multiple chrysanthemums, each corresponding to one of his soul rings. 92 109

After returning to Shrek as a Soul King, Lu Fan became directly involved in the conflict with Tang Hao, Tang San, and Xiao Wu. He coerced Xiao Wu into sacrificing herself in exchange for Tang San’s safety, then absorbed her hundred-thousand-year soul ring and soul bone following Tang Hao’s death. 84 91

Lu Fan subsequently gained the Asura God's inheritance and began undergoing divine trials. His ambitions expanded from reshaping Martial Soul Hall’s succession to challenging Bibi Dong for the Papal position and eventually unifying Douluo Continent under Martial Soul Hall. 139 144 145

Appearance

After absorbing his first soul ring, Lu Fan’s hair turned entirely yellow, with purple at the temples, resembling the colors of his Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum. 5

  • His hair changed color following his first ring absorption. 5
  • His height increased from approximately 1.2 meters to 1.3 meters after absorbing the Iron Thorn soul ring. 5
  • After absorbing his thousand-year second ring, his physique developed dramatically and he appeared closer to twelve years old, with a height of approximately 1.6 meters. 16
  • Prolonged cultivation, medicinal resources, and Yue Guan’s training made his physique comparable to that of a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old while he was still around ten years old. 35
  • Yue Guan’s etiquette training at Moonlight Pavilion transformed his bearing from that of a village child into that of an elegant noble. 80
  • Gui Mei’s Immortal Herb later caused a major change in Gui Mei’s appearance, while Lu Fan’s own notable transformation was the evolution of his martial soul. 64

Personality

Lu Fan is pragmatic and highly transactional. When Flender first sought to recruit him, Lu Fan focused on the financial benefits of becoming a soul master; he later requested compensation for concealing his talent and negotiated the terms of accepting Flender as his master. 2 5 6

He is calculating in both combat and long-term planning. He bet strategically at the Great Soul Arena, concealed his unusually strong soul rings, and trained to use soul skills without visibly activating his rings. 10 12 18 He also seeks powerful resources aggressively, including the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, its Immortal Herbs, divine inheritances, and the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. 10 57 112 145

Despite this ambition, he can be patient and considerate toward those he recognizes as his own. He treated household staff without arrogance, returned warmly to the children of Flower Grass Village, and showed affection toward Mianmian. 31 42 76 He is exceptionally generous toward allies, promising Dugu Yan a hundred-thousand-year ninth ring and devoting himself to repaying Yue Guan and Gui Mei for their protection and sacrifices. 111 117

Lu Fan is also capable of extreme ruthlessness. He regards enemies as obstacles to be removed, proposed using Tang Yuehua to pressure Tang Hao, and psychologically coerced Xiao Wu into offering her sacrifice by exploiting her desire to protect Tang San. 80 90 Yue Guan recognized these tendencies and subjected him to strict discipline, including hanging him from a tree for three days and arranging etiquette instruction under Tang Yuehua. 80 81

Following an Asura divine trial, Lu Fan lost his ability to feel joy, leaving him increasingly calm and emotionally detached even while displaying overwhelming power. 139 142

Abilities & Skills

Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum

Lu Fan’s martial soul is an Immortal Herb-type mutated chrysanthemum, later identified as the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum. It initially emphasized defense and constitution, then gained offensive and restorative capabilities through successive rings. 2 4 16 17 36

  • Possesses Innate Full Soul Power. 2 4
  • Has metal and wood attributes, which later reached the ultimate level after its evolution. 64
  • Its evolution elevated it into a sovereign among plant-type martial souls. 64
  • Its incomplete mutation initially required yang-replenishing items. 17
  • After evolving further, it manifested as the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum Tree, with an individual chrysanthemum growing beneath each soul ring. 92 109
  • At six rings, the tree bore six chrysanthemums; the bloom beneath the hundred-thousand-year ring was already as large as Lu Fan’s head. 92
  • His ultimate metal and wood attributes made him confident of defeating opponents beneath the Soul Emperor realm following his first evolution. 64

Singular Velvet Protection

Lu Fan’s first soul skill creates a protective barrier around him. It can absorb earth energy to sustain itself, making it especially effective in prolonged ground-based engagements. 5

  • Acquired from a three-hundred-year Iron Thorn. 5
  • Defended directly against Dai Mubai’s White Tiger Intense Light Wave. 19
  • Functions as Lu Fan’s foundational defensive skill. 6 19

Golden Power

Lu Fan’s second soul skill causes the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum to undergo a metallic transformation, improving both its offensive and defensive power. 16 22

  • Acquired from a thousand-year Golden Tree. 16 22
  • Allows him to condense and fire sharp metallic petals using soul power. 16
  • Allows the martial soul itself to function as a cutting weapon capable of slicing through large trees. 16
  • Expanded his combat path beyond a purely defensive Soul Master. 16 17

Falling Blossoms

Lu Fan used Falling Blossoms as an offensive countermeasure against Dai Mubai. 19

  • Broke Dai Mubai’s White Tiger Protection Barrier. 19
  • Demonstrated that Lu Fan’s chrysanthemum martial soul was not limited to defense. 17 19
  • Draws upon the metallic-petal offensive capability granted by Golden Power. 16 19

Chrysanthemums Wilt, the Ground Is Scarred, Flowers Fall, Hearts Break

Lu Fan developed an imitation of Yue Guan’s ninth soul skill by continuously regenerating and launching metallic petals with his own soul power. 39

  • Used to pass the Soul Elder assessment against two Soul Elder opponents. 39
  • The barrage forced one opponent out of the assessment and left the berserk Blood Tiger Soul Elder heavily wounded. 39
  • Lu Fan could use his martial soul as a temporary airborne platform while maintaining the attack. 39

Gilded Coat

Lu Fan’s third soul skill, obtained from the Gilded Light Flame, reinforces his defense and provides recovery under light. 36

  • Increases defensive power. 36
  • Restores soul power in the presence of light. 36
  • Heals injuries in the presence of light. 36
  • The Gilded Light Flame’s remains also gave him light affinity, enhanced metallic energy, and limited solar-energy absorption that alleviates fatigue. 36

Indestructible Diamond Body

Lu Fan’s fourth soul skill grants temporary absolute protection. 75

  • Makes him invincible for five seconds. 75
  • Grants immunity to all forms of damage during its duration. 75
  • Lu Fan considered himself invincible below the Soul Saint realm while using it. 75
  • Yue Guan had identified the Indestructible Diamond Body as the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum’s innate special capability, comparable to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon’s Dragon Transformation. 32

Soul-Ring Concealment Training

After gaining his thousand-year second ring, Lu Fan trained to activate soul skills without lighting up his rings. 18

  • Intended to conceal the abnormal age of his rings. 18
  • Gives him an advantage by hiding information from opponents. 18
  • Allowed him to continue exploiting the Great Soul Arena without publicly revealing his yellow-and-purple ring configuration. 18 20

Asura God Inheritance

Lu Fan inherited the Asura God’s divine trial and received divine rewards that accelerated his growth far beyond conventional cultivation. 139 145

  • His fifth divine trial required him to defeat the King of Slaughter, the Asura God's high priest, in Slaughter City. 139
  • His eighth ring became a seven-hundred-thousand-year god-bestowed soul ring, the strongest soul ring known in Douluo Continent’s history. 139
  • He possesses the Judgment Ring, a divine artifact associated with his Asura inheritance. 145
  • The trial’s emotional cost deprived him of the ability to feel joy. 139
