The saying "money lets you do whatever you want" should have "jpg" added to the end. In just three days, the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj had experienced the power of that meme firsthand.
First, the food supply had been cut off, forcing Mordo to travel a thousand miles and personally act as their buyer. Then Kamar-Taj started losing power.
Although Kamar-Taj had magical spatial spells that could transform a low building into a vast palace complex and make it feel like spring all year round, like a paradise from a myth,
the place still relied on power lines from the town. The sorcerers didn't have anything like backup generators, and even if they had, hardly any of them would know how to use one.
And when Mordo had finally managed to buy a diesel generator, intending to resist to the bitter end, Kaecilius clearly told him that restoring the power wouldn't be enough. Someone had cut Kamar-Taj's internet cables, too.
Tony hadn't just bought the power company. He'd also bought the region's telecommunications company.
Mordo didn't care all that much about going online, but he understood that the rich had an endless supply of ways to catch you off guard.
Before long, Tony might even buy up the land in town. Then he could apply to the Nepalese government for a redevelopment project. Kamar-Taj's building would probably end up facing demolition.
Whether he actually planned to redevelop the area didn't matter. As long as he had enough money, no one would care if Tony wanted to turn it into a golf course.
At that moment, Kaecilius said to Mordo, "Let me go talk to them."
Mordo insisted, "The Sorcerer Supreme said they weren't suited to become sorcerers, so she doesn't intend to take them on."
Kaecilius patted Mordo on the shoulder.
