Daisy drove the RV through Ember's portal, but the landscape before them was still desolate—worse than the gang hideout they'd seen earlier.

"Wasn't there a mining area? Why does it look like there's nothing here?" Daisy asked, puzzled.

Luo Xia pointed ahead. "Keep going a little farther. We'll be there soon."

"But there's nothing up ahead... Whoa, my—!" Before Daisy could finish, a huge patch of bushes parted on either side, revealing a passage made entirely of metal.

"Quit staring and get inside," Luo Xia ordered.

The RV rolled slowly into the underground passage. The camouflage bushes behind them quickly closed up again, as if nothing had happened.

The vehicle drove down the metal passage for three or four hundred meters, reaching a depth of about a hundred meters underground before entering a vast metal plaza. The brightly lit space could fit hundreds of cars, but only a dozen or so inconspicuous sedans were parked there.

Before Luo Xia and the others could even get out, dozens of Spider Robots crawled out through circular openings in the walls and surrounded them.

"What the hell are these things?" Daisy asked in terror.

The Spider Robots did look a little frightening, like the murderous monsters from a horror movie.

Skye had seen them before and knew they were intelligent robots built by Luo Xia, so she reassured her best friend. "Don't be nervous. They're just robots."

"Skye, you've seen these things before? And you're not even scared? Back in the sewers, how long did it take you to get over your fear of rats? My God, what have you been through lately?" Daisy exclaimed dramatically.
