Before the trial had even begun, the courtroom was already thick with the smell of gunpowder.
The moment Rachel Dawes and Wanda entered the courthouse, malicious gazes swept over the two prosecutors. Rachel Dawes possessed the ideal of defying power to fight for the people, but she was still only an ordinary person. Those murderous stares made her feel deeply uncomfortable.
Unlike Rachel, Wanda, the rookie assistant district attorney, remained utterly calm and unaffected.
After taking their seats at the prosecution's table, Rachel said, "Wanda, you have more courage than I imagined. You're braver than I am."
Wanda said indifferently, "That's because I can protect myself and you. So no matter how many guns they have aimed at us, I don't need to care."
"What do you mean by that?" Rachel felt that Wanda's words were strange.
"I'll tell you when I get the chance. But we'd better get ready. Today's trial will be a hard battle," Wanda reminded her.
"You're right."
Rachel quickly focused, going through every point that the opposing attorney might refute and reorganizing it all. She was determined to send Falcone, the mob boss, to prison.
The course of the trial was entirely within Rachel's grasp, and with Zsasz's cooperation, every piece of evidence was flawless. The opposing lawyer was excellent as well, but this case was backed by irrefutable proof. All evidence ultimately pointed to Falcone as the mastermind.
"We did it," Rachel said excitedly to Wanda.
"No, don't celebrate too soon," Wanda warned.
"But we already..."
Rachel was still somewhat surprised, but she soon understood that Gotham City truly was not a place where law mattered.
In the end, the jury found Zsasz guilty, and the judge sentenced him to death.
Upon hearing the verdict, Zsasz shouted, "What?! You said I'd be fine!"
