Background / History
Family Poison and Meeting Yu Shuangbai
Dugu Yan is Dugu Bo’s granddaughter and his only remaining close relative. Her parents died from Jade Phosphorous Serpent poison, although she initially believed their deaths were accidental. Dugu Bo concealed the family’s poison affliction to spare her the fear of sharing their fate 16.
Yu Shuangbai deliberately seeks her out at Heaven Dou Royal Academy as a means of reaching Dugu Bo and gaining access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. When he offers information about the lethal poison within her and her grandfather, she is skeptical: her own poison has not yet produced noticeable symptoms 8 11 12.
