Background / History

Yu Yuanzhen leads the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, an Upper Three Sect whose standing relies heavily on his status as its sole Titled Douluo. He shares the clan’s belief in the inherent supremacy of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul and initially dismisses Yu Tianheng’s account of being suppressed by Yu Shuangbai. Yu Tianxin’s corroboration—that his own martial soul trembled before Yu Shuangbai—forces him to accept the possibility that a superior dragon-type martial soul exists. 24

When Elder Yu Song recalls a missing branch-family disciple named Yu Shuangbai, Yu Yuanzhen suspects that the Ice Dragon martial soul may be a beneficial mutation of the boy’s former Ice Lizard martial soul. He orders a clan-wide inquiry into Yu Shuangbai’s past, viewing the potential loss of such a genius as a major blow to the sect. 25

A logistics elder later identifies Yu Shuangbai as the same orphaned clan disciple who vanished years earlier. Yu Yuanzhen responds with regret at the clan’s failure to recognize his talent, but primarily sees an opportunity to secure a powerful successor for the sect. 29

Personality

Yu Yuanzhen is proud, pragmatic, and intensely protective of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s status. He expects his titles as sect master and Thunder Douluo to command respect, and Snow Emperor’s open contempt provokes him into abandoning his initial caution. 30 32

His concern for Yu Shuangbai is driven chiefly by the youth’s value to the clan. He offers compensation, core-disciple treatment, and punishment for those who denied Yu Shuangbai assistance, but only after the latter’s Ice Dragon King martial soul proves exceptional. Despite his arrogance, Yu Yuanzhen is not reckless toward every threat. He avoids directly antagonizing Dugu Bo because failing to kill the poison master outright could expose the clan’s lower-ranked disciples to mass poisoning. 31

Once Yu Tianxin confirms the account, he becomes grave over the implication that the clan’s martial soul is subordinate to an unknown Ice Dragon-type martial soul. 24

Investigation and Recognition

He connects Yu Shuangbai’s name, surname, and ice-attribute dragon martial soul to the missing clan disciple with an Ice Lizard martial soul. After confirming Yu Shuangbai’s identity, he decides to reclaim him for the clan’s future. 25 29

Attempted Reclamation

Yu Yuanzhen personally approaches Yu Shuangbai, offers an apology and favorable treatment, and promises to punish those responsible for denying him aid. Yu Shuangbai sees the offer as opportunistic and refuses to return; Yu Yuanzhen then attempts to use force. 30 31

Clash with Snow Emperor
