Background / History
Arisu enters the Black Sphere trials as an influential Class A student whose congenital heart condition and weak legs sharply restrict her mobility. Her appearance, family background, and leadership position have accustomed her to being revered or carefully protected. Before the trials, her interest in Ayanokoji Kiyotaka centered on proving the superiority of natural talent 5 6 7.
The Black Sphere changes her priorities by making physical restoration seem attainable. After the first mission, she verifies that ordinary post-exam healing removes external injuries but leaves her underlying disability unchanged. She begins pursuing enough points to complete what she regards as the missing part of herself, abandoning the consolation that geniuses must be lonely and incomplete 4 6 21.
Her father remains an important source of information about the authorities’ response to the trials. Although the family’s influence cannot free her from the Black Sphere, Arisu argues that remaining a player gives them access to intelligence unavailable to outside observers 21 93.
Appearance
Arisu is petite, with silver hair and pale violet eyes; her usual bearing is elegant and composed 2 74 187.
- Beret: Readjusts it after the initial teleportation leaves her seated on the floor 2.
- White stockings: Worn during her teleportation into the second exam 10.
- Walking cane: Initially essential for mobility. After being healed, she briefly retains it while adapting her balance to independent walking 9 93.
- Short stature: Has to quicken her steps to keep pace while walking arm-in-arm with Su Wei 138.
Personality
Arisu is proud, competitive, and unusually composed in danger. She treats survival as a strategic contest rather than responding with the panic shown by several other students. Her contempt for reckless behavior is especially visible in her exchanges with Ryuen, while her dislike of losing initially makes her reluctant to train against Su Wei 1 2 5 159.
She readily uses charm, apparent vulnerability, money, and privileged information to influence others. Asking Kushida for permission to “borrow” Su Wei effectively arranges his help before he agrees; later, she disguises deliberately tracked encounters as coincidences. Su Wei’s refusal to defer to her unsettles her precisely because it is unfamiliar 5 7 9 23.
Her teasing confidence has limits. She becomes visibly embarrassed when private flirtation turns serious, and Ichinose’s presence makes her more cautious about openly pursuing Su Wei. She can also acknowledge another person’s success: after losing the jungle simulation, she recognizes Karuizawa’s contribution rather than disputing the result 142 160 190.
Abilities & Skills
Strategic Analysis
Arisu identifies useful mechanics and favors methods suited to an opponent’s weaknesses.
- Recognizes that S Points allow individual performance to override ordinary class-based evaluation 17.
- Deduces the upcoming uninhabited-island exam from the map and the timing of wilderness-survival instruction 106 107.
- Recommends the Y-GUN against the Pillar Men because dimensional removal avoids relying on damage against highly regenerative enemies 170.
- Supports negotiated Advance Test outcomes to preserve the strongest combatants when resources are limited 104.
Information Gathering and Negotiation
Her position as the chairman’s daughter supplements her own observation and bargaining skills.
- Uses friend-location settings to find Su Wei and offers 5,000 points per hour for his assistance 9.
- Tracks him through school surveillance and administrative access 99.
- Identifies Amasawa Ichika’s connection to the White Room and warns Su Wei about her 75.
- Uses an item scanner to reveal the properties of capsules brought by Su Wei and Kiryuin Fuka 209.
Ranged Combat
Arisu develops into a sniper who fights behind stronger frontline combatants.
- Takes out Barricade and Oomori Yakumo with a sniper rifle during the Decepticon battle 85.
- Uses Pumpkin as the ranged component of a formation with Ayanokoji and Ryuen in close combat and Ichinose providing aerial support 160.
- Contributes a well-timed Pumpkin attack against Wamuu and Esidisi and coordinates with Amasawa’s Y-GUN 176.
- Remains vulnerable when an enemy closes the distance: Su Wei’s team disables her Reinforcement Suit in the jungle simulation, and later training leaves her unable even to fire against overwhelming opponents 160 213.
Ice Control
Demon's Extract temporarily enables an exceptionally large-scale freezing feat.
- Freezes the lava-filled volcano after drinking the Teigu 133.
- Cannot safely handle the power at her then-current level and collapses after using it 133 134.
- No later passage confirms mastery or continued use of this ability.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Walking cane — Her original mobility aid. The Black Sphere initially teleports her without it, creating an immediate practical disadvantage 9 10.
- X-GUN — An early ranged weapon; she later gives one to Su Wei, who passes it to Katsuragi 4 83.
- Y-GUN — Selected for its ability to send monsters into another dimension, particularly against regenerative enemies 170.
- X-SHOT GUN — First requested on loan from Su Wei, then purchased after her restoration. Its radar helps her detect approaching threats 74 89 160.
- Reinforcement Suit — Grants enhanced strength. During the simulation, it absorbs a fatal-equivalent hit before breaking; Arisu restores it through her Black Sphere wristwatch 160.
- Pumpkin — An 80-point ranged weapon whose power increases with the danger faced by its user, giving her a potential last-resort counterattack 159 160 213.
- Radar Controller — Temporarily entrusted to her by Su Wei during the island exam; she uses its interface to assess nearby allies and routes 124 134.
- Item Catalog / scanner — Used to identify unfamiliar items, including Su Wei’s mystery-box reward and later exam capsules 187 188 209.
- Sandevistan — Cyberware purchased to strengthen her specialization and connected to her spine 224.
Relationships
- Su Wei — Rescuer, paid helper, financier’s beneficiary, combat partner, and romantic interest. Arisu repeatedly seeks his company, expresses confidence in their compatibility, and later goes on a date with him. His past remains a subject she unsuccessfully tries to investigate 4 9 18 97 139 140.
- Kamuro Masumi — Close attendant and frequent teammate, initially used as physical support. Arisu possesses leverage through Kamuro’s shoplifting habit, but the trials weaken Kamuro’s deference. Arisu later promises not to force her into the next trial, though Kamuro distrusts this apparent kindness 7 34 65 100.
- Sakayanagi Narimori — Father and school chairman. They exchange sensitive information about the Black Sphere, the White Room, and outside political pressure; he urges her to prioritize her safety 93 105.
- Ryuen Kakeru — Hostile rival and occasional battlefield collaborator. Their insults persist even as they coordinate against common threats 5 138 176.
- Ichinose Honami — Mutual-aid partner and information source, with an emerging rivalry over Su Wei. Arisu moderates her behavior around Ichinose while continuing to tease her 22 187 190.
- Ayanokoji Kiyotaka — Initially a target in her effort to prove natural genius superior to artificial cultivation; later a tactical collaborator in training and examinations 6 160 177.
- Amasawa Ichika — A White Room student whose arrival Arisu treats suspiciously. Their relationship develops into competitive banter, shopping together, and battlefield cooperation 64 75 142 176 177.
- Karuizawa Kei — Fellow survivor and romantic rival. Arisu acknowledges her effective shooting in training but later deliberately obstructs and provokes her attempts to spend time with Su Wei 85 160 209 210 211.
- Shiina Hiyori — Cross-class contact whom Arisu approaches while creating an opportunity for alliance discussions. Later, she offers to help carry Shiina’s book purchases using their Reinforcement Suits 55 144.
- Hayasaka Ai — Recruited into Arisu’s class after requesting reliable opportunities to enter exams and earn a route home 183.
- Kiryuin Fuka — Upperclassman and information-sharing contact who asks Arisu to identify her Teigu 209.
