Admission
"Ah Ping, how did it go? Did you get in?"
Upon returning home, Ximen Ping's mother immediately came up to inquire.
It's no wonder she's like this; lately, the news has been filled with stories about the extraordinary, with a plethora of experts Scholar arguing that embracing the extraordinary will make the world a better place.
Whoever masters the extraordinary will be able to leap up the social ladder and achieve a leap in social class in the future world!
She might not fully understand, but the idea that getting into the East City Mystery Academy and becoming a superior person in the future was deeply ingrained in her.
"I... I don't know."
Ximen Ping felt bitter inside.
"Pingya, don't be discouraged... If you don't pass this time, there's always next time."
A few middle-aged women taking a walk in the neighborhood comforted her, saying, "I heard that my relative's neighbor's aunt's friend's child got into college... The crystal ball lights up when you touch it, and a bunch of teachers were fighting over it right there!"
'There's only one examiner, isn't there? And... this seems like something out of a novel I've read before? A prodigy is recruited, and the elders are scrambling to recruit him?'
Ximen Ping rolled his eyes speechlessly, returned to his room, lay down on the bed, and let out a deep breath.
He didn't feel like eating, so he casually opened his phone and started scrolling through the news.
As expected, the most exciting and talked-about event was the second round of selections for the Mystery Academy.
It seemed like all the test centers had the same content: queuing up to get a number and touching a crystal ball.
As for the claim that the crystal ball glows, that's pure nonsense.
This made him feel a little bit better.
After all, there's still a chance, isn't there?
He drifted off to sleep.
night.
All was silent.
Peck! Peck! Peck!
The sound of pecking at the glass began, growing louder and louder.
"So noisy."
Ximen Ping opened his eyes and turned on the desk lamp. "Who is it? Holy crap..."
He drew back the curtains and was immediately startled.
A black Crow was perched on the windowsill, its scarlet pupils staring intently at him.
"Ximen Ping?"
The Crow cleared its throat and spoke in a human voice, "I am a messenger from the East City Mystery Academy. I am honored to inform you that you have been admitted to the academy, majoring in mysticism."
"The Crow... can talk!"
Although he had seen some videos of mutated animals before, Ximen Ping was still incredibly shocked after seeing it in person. "Wait a minute, what did you say? I... I got the job, you... you're the postman?"
"Are you really going to talk to the great Crow Clan through the window?"
The Crow opposite said impatiently, "Or do you want me to tear this place down before I come in?"
"Oh, no, no, please go ahead!"
Ximen Ping quickly opened the window and let the Crow in.
The black Crow preened its feathers and looked around. "Also, I am the noble messenger from Morocco. Don't compare me to those ordinary postmen."
"Yes, yes, sir." Ximen Ping thought to himself, "Isn't 'messenger' just an old name for a postman?" But of course, he didn't show it.
He thought for a moment, then quickly opened the refrigerator and took out a carton of milk.
"Hmm, you're good."
The Crow Morocco drank its milk, seemingly quite satisfied.
"So... where's my acceptance letter?" Ximen Ping rubbed his fingers together.
"Well... of course."
Morocco patted himself down, revealing a simple, dark green shoulder bag that looked exactly like the ones used by postmen.
A notification letter flew out:
Ximen Ping: You have been admitted to the Mysticism program at our college. Please bring this notice and report to the largest tree in the East City Forest Park on September 1st. You may bring the following items:...
The final signature reads: East City Mystery Academy, Principal Bai Jing.
The surface of this notice is engraved with intricate patterns, and occasionally even a few strands of gold thread shimmer.
"I... I... Yay!"
"I got accepted!"
Watching the Crow messenger leave, Ximen Ping suddenly clenched his fist and shouted.
Bang!
A heavy object fell to the ground.
"Ah!"
Ximen Ping had rolled off the bed in his sleep, screamed and looked out the window, only to find that it was already the next morning, with sunlight streaming in through the window.
"Am I... am I dreaming?"
His expression turned somewhat bewildered. "That's true... How could the school possibly send such an unreliable Crow to deliver a message? I must be so desperate for admission that I had such a dream."
Ximen Ping felt a little disappointed and climbed back into bed.
Suddenly, his expression froze. On the bedside table, the uniquely designed and exquisitely crafted notification letter lay quietly.
"Is... is it true?"
"I... I got accepted."
Ximen Ping waved the admission notice and rushed out of the room, eager to share this joy with his family and friends.
"Hey! Dear Ruby, don't you really think this is a scam?"
Inside the International Hotel in East City.
Gil's father said to his wife with a worried look, "We've searched the entire East City, but we haven't found that Mystery Academy!"
"But... it has already started recruiting students, and Heavenly Net members are even endorsing it."
Ruby answered firmly.
"Okay, okay... but why do foreign candidates have to take an additional test? This is blatant discrimination... I protest!"
Gil's father said indignantly, "I don't understand, what does the occult have to do with Xia Wen's Level 8?"
"Fortunately, our little Gil is smart enough, and he applied to the primary school section, which has lower requirements... As it turns out, our son is a genius."
Ruby relief.
Just then, Gil came in holding up an acceptance letter. "Daddy, Mommy... I got my acceptance letter!"
"Um?"
Gil's father picked up the notice with a complicated expression and read it carefully.
Ruby couldn't wait to pick up her son and kiss him. "Baby, I knew you were the best."
"Strange... when was it mailed?"
Gil's father asked, completely bewildered.
"It happened in the middle of the night yesterday, and it's so strange, I thought the messenger would be an owl, but it turned out to be Crow..."
Gil sucked her fingers and asked, "Now, can I go to magic school?"
Time flies, and summer vacation is over in the blink of an eye.
The much-discussed recruitment process for the Mystery Academy has come to an end. Those lucky enough to be admitted have received Frenzy media attention and instantly gained both fame and fortune.
Ximen Ping had no idea how many reports he had given or how many events he had attended; he felt like the muscles in his face were about to collapse from laughing so much.
However, the feeling of success is really great.
Today is the day he will depart for the East City.
"Brother..." A Yun said tearfully as she saw him off, earnestly urging him, "If you become rich and powerful, don't forget me!"
"Rest assured!"
Ximen Ping patted his mischievous friend on the shoulder. "When my dog becomes rich, I'll never forget you!!"
