| Awakened — Dream Builder (Desolate Rank) | 12 14 | Awakens the Dream Builder talent and initially treats it as proof that he stands above ordinary people. Wu Wei identifies it as a newly awakened Desolate Rank ability. |
Background / History
The Wang Family was once a renowned cultivation family, but declined after cultivation became ineffective in the modern environment. By Wang Zixuan's childhood, the family had become dependent on the wealthier Lan Family. 14 15
Lan Meng recounts that Wang Zixuan was bullied before age five despite the Lan Family's protection. His grandmother died when he was six; “Aunt Wang” died in a car accident when he was eight; and “Uncle Wang” later remarried and had another son. 15
Wang Zixuan and Lan Meng grew up together. He enrolled at Imperial Capital University partly to follow her, and the Lan Family assigned him to protect her. He wanted more than this role, however, and became resentful when Lan Meng fell for his roommate Wu Wei instead. 12
Personality
Wang Zixuan initially presents himself as comparatively accepting of his limits. Although he recognizes Wu Wei's superior talent and work ethic, he argues that there is no point competing with someone so exceptional; he is also the least studious of his dormmates despite having solid aptitude. 7 10
After awakening, his insecurity turns into superiority and obsession. He declares that being an Awakened makes him qualified to pursue Lan Meng and regards Wu Wei as unworthy of her. His confidence collapses when Li Xiong and Wu Wei treat his Desolate Rank talent as unremarkable. 12 14
Lan Meng later attributes part of his murderous hostility to Heart Demon influence, which magnified his existing desires. Wu Wei rejects this as an excuse, holding Wang Zixuan responsible for choosing to harm others. 16 19
Abilities & Skills
Dream Builder
An awakened dream-related talent capable of subtly influencing others.
- Wang Zixuan uses the ability's awakening to justify his belief that he is above ordinary people. 12
- He renders Lan Meng unconscious after telling her to sleep. 12
- Wu Wei and Qin Yunhai infer that he may have hypnotized Kuang Zhiguo and possibly Li Long, potentially causing them to believe false narratives such as rebirth. 13
- The ability is considered troublesome against ordinary people, but Lan Meng's Dream Stealing Ability hard-counters it. 19
- It does not appear to work on Wu Wei. 16
Academic Ability
- He is capable enough to study at Imperial Capital University and has learning ability only slightly below Wu Wei's. 10 14
- He nevertheless puts little effort into studying and relies more on his perceived talent. 10 14
Equipment / Items
- Mobile phone — Records Wu Wei switching the drugged cups after Kuang Zhiguo's attempted poisoning; Wang Zixuan intends to use the footage to frame Wu Wei. 10
- Altered video evidence — Presents the recording to Detective Li Xiong as alleged proof that Wu Wei murdered Kuang Zhiguo, only for the footage to show Wang Zixuan himself after Wu Wei manipulates it. 11 13
Relationships
- Wu Wei — Roommate, rival, and intended victim. Wang Zixuan resents Wu Wei over Lan Meng, records evidence to frame him, and seeks to have him imprisoned. 10 12 13
- Lan Meng — Childhood friend and the person he was assigned to protect. His unreciprocated feelings for her drive much of his hostility toward Wu Wei. 12
- Kuang Zhiguo — Dormmate whose death Wang Zixuan exploits as the basis for his frame-up against Wu Wei. 10 13
- Li Long — Dormmate; Wang Zixuan regards Li Long's death as part of the cost of his plan to bring down Wu Wei. 10
- Li Xiong — Six Fan Gate detective who sees through Wang Zixuan's accusation and arrests him after examining the video evidence. 13
Story Role / Major Arcs
Room 307 Dormmate
Wang Zixuan is one of four Room 307 dormmates who maintain a weekly meal tradition and promise not to forget one another if they become successful. Following Li Long's death, he uses a cousin working at the Six Fan Gate to learn details of the case and shares them with Wu Wei and Kuang Zhiguo. 2 6
Recording Kuang Zhiguo's Death
When Kuang Zhiguo poisons Wu Wei, Wu Wei secretly switches their cups. Wang Zixuan records the switch and, after Kuang Zhiguo dies from the poison, decides that neither Kuang Zhiguo nor Li Long will have “died for nothing.” 10
Dream Builder and the Frame-Up
Wang Zixuan reveals his Dream Builder talent to Lan Meng, declares himself worthy of pursuing her, and knocks her unconscious. He then reports Wu Wei to the Six Fan Gate, submitting his video as evidence that Wu Wei drugged and killed Kuang Zhiguo. 12 13
Wu Wei has already altered the footage so that it depicts Wang Zixuan rather than himself. Li Xiong immediately arrests Wang Zixuan for suspected murder. 11 13
Collapse and Removal
Wang Zixuan attempts to claim the status of an Awakened and reveal his cultivation-family heritage, but neither Li Xiong nor Wu Wei considers his newly awakened Desolate Rank ability extraordinary. After trying to attack Wu Wei, he is taken away by government officials. 14 15
Lan Meng later argues that Dream Builder could be useful against Heart Demons, but Wu Wei refuses to spare him because of Kuang Zhiguo's death and resolves to let Wang Zixuan disappear for the “big picture.” 16 19
