Ton-Tongue Toffee
George left in a hurry.
Because Kyle's house isn't connected to the Floo Network, he needs to go back to the Burrow first, and then use the fireplace in his house to get to Diagon Alley.
Fred had originally intended to go along, but when he passed a mirror, he changed his mind and turned back to the attic.
Fred was usually a bit carefree, but he wasn't completely indifferent to his appearance, and he certainly didn't want to show up in the crowded Diagon Alley looking like this.
Otherwise, he'll probably become the first laughing stock of the new school year when school starts.
In the attic, Kyle was studying the twins' progress over the past few days.
--A whole box full of more than ten different kinds of candy, all of which are some of the best-selling varieties on the market.
They have Fizzing Whizzbees, fudge, toffee, and chocolate.
Kyle picked up a fudge and, as soon as he brought it close, smelled a faint bitterness that seemed out of place with the candy's natural sweetness.
"Waaaaah..."
Fred seemed to want to say something, but Kyle didn't understand.
He took out a notebook and wrote in it:
"This is a failed experiment; we've discovered that only toffee can mask the taste of the Swelling Solution."
Kyle nodded, then picked up another piece of toffee and smelled it. The bitterness was indeed much milder; you couldn't even notice it unless you looked closely.
Their approach was too crude; they simply made a hole in the candy and stuffed in the Swelling Solution.
With a little more care, the smell of the Swelling Solution might be completely masked.
Of course, it's also possible that they're just too lazy to do it.
After all, until the dosage of the Swelling Solution is resolved, this thing can't even be considered a semi-finished product.
After that, Fred gave Kyle a notebook containing all their previous experimental records, clearly stating the specific reasons for each failure and the adverse consequences.
It's about ten pages long, which is quite detailed.
Just as Kyle was flipping through the notebook, George returned, carrying a paper bag filled with Shrivelfig.
"There's no need to buy so many, George," Kyle said, holding out his hand. "The Shrivelfig are just a supplement; one or two will suffice."
"It's better to be prepared." George casually handed the things he was holding to Kyle, and asked with a smile, "So, you're joining us too?"
Kyle shrugged. "After a week of homework, I need to have some fun."
"Speaking of this..." George suddenly sighed and said, "I can't believe you would waste your precious vacation time on homework."
Percy was the same way; when I got back just now, he was still complaining that I was bothering him.
Good heavens, I just opened the door! He wasn't doing his homework in the living room!
"I have to say, in this respect, you are much better than him; at least you never blame us for not being able to do your homework."
Kyle didn't mind the Weasley family ' usual banter, and went about his business by taking out two Shrivelfig, peeling them, and squeezing out the juice.
While he was at it, George took out half a bottle of swelling potion from the box next to him. After thinking for a moment, he found an empty bottle and emptied half of the potion from it.
Fred and George weren't very good at brewing Potions, and Mrs. Weasley didn't allow anyone to handle cauldrons in the house. To save time, they bought these Swelling Solution directly from Diagon Alley —a full five Galleon and a pint!
Let's use it sparingly if we can.
After adding the juice of the Shrivelfig, the color of the Swelling Solution began to lighten, quickly changing from its original sky blue to a light blue.
Kyle nodded.
It's good that it didn't turn into another color, which means the properties of the medicine haven't changed.
He picked up the bottle, ready to drip some on his hand to test the effect.
But George stopped him.
"No, no, no, Kyle, you can't do this."
George said earnestly, "What we need is to make the tongue bigger, not the hands."
After saying that, he took out a new candy from his pocket, dripped some medicine on it, and put it directly into his mouth.
"I really shouldn't have touched it," George mumbled. "It tastes so weird, it's like... ugh..."
George's cheeks began to puff up slowly, and his words turned into muffled sobs.
That was his tongue.
Fred stood beside him, waving his arms and legs excitedly and making incessant noises, as if celebrating something.
George's tongue began to swell rapidly and soon protruded outwards, looking like a slippery python.
"It looks like it was a success."
Kyle sized up George.
The Shrivelfig did neutralize some of the Swelling Solution and made it much less effective, only working on the tongue, where it came into the most contact with the potion.
Once we figure out a way to remove the potion's peculiar taste so that the young wizards can't detect it, this "Skiving Snackboxes" will be truly complete.
Fred and George were overjoyed.
"You're something else, Kyle... Haha, Shrivelfig."
After the Swelling Solution wore off, George exclaimed excitedly, "You don't know, we were actually planning to give up!"
"The Swelling Solution is too expensive," Fred said, shrugging. "We've already wasted a whole bottle before this."
"Five Galleon," George said, a pang of regret in his voice. "We really should have waited for you to come along."
The thought of having wasted five Galleon made his heart bleed.
If these were Dungbomb, they'd be enough to put them in a small battle with Slytherin.
"Aren't you guys rich?" Kyle asked. "One hundred Galleon each, have you already spent it all?"
"Having money and wasting it are two different things," Fred sighed. "Besides, we only have thirty Galleon left, and that's a total of thirty Galleon."
On the first day of the holiday, Mrs. Weasley accidentally knocked the wallets hidden on Fred and George's bodies while she was beating them.
Golden Galleon were scattered all over the floor, nearly scaring Mrs. Weasley unconscious. She thought the twins had stolen some Slytherin student from the school.
Although Fred and George quickly explained the origins of the Galleon, Mrs. Weasley did not believe them.
The matter was only clarified after Chris arrived.
However, Mrs. Weasley confiscated the Galleon, citing fears they might do something bad.
Now, Fred and George only have the money they have left hidden in the box.
Just like they said, thirty Galleon, no more, no less, just enough.
