The Box Is Still Too Small

After Hagrid left with Fang, Kyle turned to Harry and the others, and said with a smile, "So the egg is in the fireplace... how long are you going to keep hiding it?"

"Oh..." Ron complained softly, "Hermione, didn't you say you'd read that book? How come you didn't know dragon eggs smelled when cooked in fire... or did you misread the title?"

"Shut up! How could that be? Do you think I'm like you?!" Hermione said irritably. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a book that the school requires us to buy. Of course I've read it, and more than once."

"Then what should we do...?"

"Don't ask, I don't know!" Hermione scratched her head and said, "I don't remember the book ever saying anything like that. It only talks about how to hatch dragon eggs!"

As they spoke, all three of them turned their gazes toward Kyle.

Ron asked suspiciously, "You didn't just make this up, did you?"

He trusted Hermione more than Kyle, since Hermione had never made a mistake when memorizing her lessons.

"What about Fang?" Kyle said. "It won't cooperate with me."

Harry thought for a moment and said, "Perhaps... it's just feeling unwell."

"Well, it certainly knows how to pick its timing."

Kyle picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip, and said to Hermione, "I think you must have bought the book before school started."

"Yes, when I first went to Diagon Alley." Hermione frowned. "Is there a problem?"

Kyle shrugged and said, "Actually, * Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them * has been revised many times. I guess the people at Flourish and Blotts gave you the previous versions."

As he spoke, he took out his book and handed it to Hermione.

"You can see for yourself."

Hermione took it and quickly turned to the page about the Dragon.

Just as Kyle said, that sentence was indeed written on it.

Looking at the publication dates, the two books were actually more than fifty years apart.

"This is outrageous..." Hermione said angrily, "This is deception, how could they do this!"

"That's normal. Newt has revised it so many times, but the cover has never changed. If you don't open it, it's hard to tell if it's the latest version."

"Plus, there are a lot of people buying books before the start of the school year, so the clerk probably didn't notice that they had taken the wrong one."

Hermione remembered that when she went to Flourish and Blotts, all the textbooks needed for Hogwarts were placed at the door, except for the box containing "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which was empty.

Moreover, the shop assistants were all very busy at the time, and the book she was holding was one she had found herself in the corner of the bookshelf.

"Oh, damn it!"

Hermione was even angrier, but this time she was angry at herself.

She discovered that Kyle's book was significantly more detailed; she wished she had waited a little longer.

"If you really care, you can take it to Flourish and Blotts during your vacation and exchange it. I think they'll agree," Kyle said with a smile.

Fifty years ago was Newt's peak creative period. Sometimes, a newly revised version would be scrapped and rewritten within a few days, so there weren't many old books in stock at that time.

These books are of little use to ordinary people, but they are a different story for bookstores. To show off their extensive collections, they often display an entire set of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

"No!"

Hermione returned the book to Kyle, saying, "It won't cost much anyway, I've decided to buy another copy later."

After saying that, she sat back down on the stool next to her.

It's too hot in front of the fireplace. Now that Kyle has found the dragon egg, there's no need to go back and suffer.

Harry and Ron followed.

Without them blocking his view, Kyle immediately spotted the large, dark egg hidden under the kettle.

"Norwegian Ridgeback?"

"That's right." At that moment, Hagrid walked in.

After closing the door, he excitedly said, "How about that? Pretty rare, right?"

Kyle nodded.

The Norwegian Ridgeback is second only to the Hungarian Horntail and the Australian Opaleye in rarity; it is indeed very rare.

On his way to find the mountain pear tree, Hagrid kept looking back at his cabin.

"You should go back and take care of the dragon eggs. I know the way, you don't need to come with me."

Hagrid shook his head firmly. "No, I can't let you go to the Forbidden Forest alone!"

"Alright then, I'll try to pick something as quick as possible." Kyle sighed, somewhat disappointed.

"But speaking of which, how did you manage to get your hands on the dragon egg?"

"I didn't buy it, I won it," Hagrid said. "It was really lucky. A few days ago, a guy I often drink with came to me and said there was a guy in the village playing cards with a dragon egg, and asked if I was interested."

"So you went to Hogsmeade?"

"I didn't want to go, you know, the Forbidden Forest has been turbulent lately, but those are dragon eggs..." Hagrid lowered his voice, excitedly saying, "That guy is too stupid, I just used a little trick to fool him."

Kyle glanced at the smug Hagrid, raised an eyebrow, and said nothing.

The fact that Hagrid could fool them speaks volumes.

"But what are your plans after it hatches?" Kyle asked.

"Oh, I've been reading." Hagrid glanced at his little house again.

"Once it hatches, just feed it a bucket of chicken blood brandy every half hour."

"Then you'd better be careful," Kyle said. "Norwegian Ridgeback are no quiet species; they're as aggressive as Hungarian Horntail, and it's impossible for them to go undetected."

"Um... yes, I'll be careful," Hagrid mumbled in response.

Once he thought about being able to raise dragons soon, he wouldn't care about anything else.

"In that case," Kyle patted Hagrid's arm and said meaningfully, "If you ever need any help in the future, just let me know. Don't hesitate to ask."

The Dragon grows very quickly; it only takes a month for it to surpass the current Fluffy.

Kyle decided that once he got back, he would make sure to enlarge the box a bit more.

The two arrived near the Mooncalf's lair, where the pear trees were the best-growing in the area.

Kyle walked over and carefully examined the trunks of the mountain pear trees, while Hagrid stood absentmindedly beside him.

His mind was constantly on the dragon egg in the cabin, worrying one moment about whether the fire in the fireplace would go out, and the next about whether Harry and the others would break the egg.

This made him seem increasingly nervous; he couldn't help but glance back, as if he wanted to go back immediately.

On the other side, Kyle circled around and quickly found two relatively young, less lush wild pear trees.

This is the most suitable option; it's much easier to transplant and has a higher survival rate.
