It's All For Your Own Good
After searching for more than half an hour, they finally found the location of the lake.
But new problems have arisen.
Kyle searched around the lake three times, but he didn't see a Manticore, let alone a Bowtruckle.
"Have we come to the wrong place?" Kyle asked suspiciously. "There's nothing around here."
No, you didn't get the wrong person.
Newt squatted down in front of an open space, picked up a few golden hairs, and smelled them.
"The scent on these hairs hasn't completely dissipated; it's certain the Manticore was here yesterday and hasn't left."
Newt stood up and said, "It must have been taken somewhere else, but it shouldn't be too far. Let's look for it nearby..."
Kyle nodded and prepared to walk down the only forest path nearby.
This matter is probably related to Hagrid. If so, then following the path is definitely the right thing to do.
Just as Kyle turned around, Newt suddenly grabbed his arm.
The next second, a rumbling sound came from the depths of the alley, as if something had hit the ground, and it was quite a large one at that.
Then came a loud clicking sound, and a group of large spiders with eight eyes and eight legs emerged from the darkness.
Not those tiny spiders scurrying through the fallen leaves, but each one as big as a foal.
They were numerous and surged out from all directions, surrounding Kyle and Newt.
The spiders excitedly moved their large pincers, making a series of clicking sounds.
After they had completely surrounded the two, a spider as big as a small elephant slowly emerged from the depths of the path.
"Oh... I never imagined that Acromantula could grow this big," Newt said in surprise. "This size... even among all Acromantula, it's a rare sight to see such a large creature."
"This isn't the time to talk about this," Kyle said. "We're clearly being treated like pudding."
"No, you're wrong," Newt said seriously. "Acromantula don't like sweet food, so we should be little bread rolls."
"What's the difference?" Kyle asked, speechless.
"Yes!" Newt muttered softly, in a murmured voice, "I don't like pudding..."
As the two were talking, the Acromantula had already surrounded them.
The largest spider stepped forward, its two large pincers moving rapidly.
"You followed the spider all the way to our lair..." it said, "Tell me, what is your purpose!"
The Acromantula is a language genius, capable of mimicking the voices of many creatures, including humans. Although its voice is hoarse and dry, it is quite standard, and Kyle and Newt can understand it.
"I think you must have misunderstood, Aragog," Kyle said. "We were just looking for Manticore, and we heard it was nearby, so we were just passing by."
"You know me?" The giant spider took two more steps forward.
"Hagrid told me that," Kyle said.
"Lies..." Aragog said slowly, "Hagrid has never sent anyone to our depression before."
"I didn't go to your depression, I was just passing by..." Kyle said again.
But Aragog paid no heed and struck its large claws even faster.
"We have to go, Kyle," Newt said. "This is a sign that they're about to attack."
Sure enough, as soon as Newt finished speaking, the spiders gathered from all directions, their rustling sounds filling the air.
"Prepare to use the Wand-Lighting Charm," Newt said. "Acromantula cannot close their eyes; the intense light will make them very uncomfortable and render them unable to resist."
"I have an easier way," Kyle said.
Instead of retreating, he advanced, walked up to Aragog, and asked, "So, you're planning to kill us?"
"Out of respect for Hagrid, I have never hurt anyone."
Aragog said, "But I cannot stop them from enjoying themselves. Farewell, Hagrid's friend."
"Oh, I understand." Kyle nodded. "Now, I'll give you two choices."
Kyle calmly placed the box on the ground and opened it.
The next second, Norbert's head popped out. It lay down next to Kyle, its mouth slightly open, and you could vaguely see orange-red dragon flames inside.
In an instant, the spiders began to retreat frantically, but Aragog was unable to move.
It could sense that it was being watched, and that any unusual movement would result in scorching dragon flames descending upon it.
"Damn it, who is this little wizard? Why does he have Dragon?!" Aragog roared inwardly, his entire spider body on the verge of collapse.
"It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding..." it cried out repeatedly, its speech becoming much faster. "It was just a joke, how could we possibly hurt Hagrid's friend..."
"You scared me! You were just joking..." Kyle patted his chest.
"Yes, yes," the old spider nodded quickly, "We have great respect for Hagrid and would never harm a human."
"But I was frightened," Kyle said with a smile. "Shouldn't you pay some compensation for my emotional distress?"
Aragog moved his large claws. "Aren't you looking for that scorpion-tailed monster? Hagrid Three-headed Dog. I know where it is, and I can take you there."
"Not enough." Kyle shook his finger. "I know where Three-headed Dog is, I don't need you to lead the way..."
"Hmm, how about this... I see you have a lot of spiders, how about you send me some venom?"
"Okay," the old spider nodded. "How much do you want?"
"Not many." Kyle took out his wand and turned the surrounding leaves into a dozen or so large bottles.
It's the kind of bottle used to hold Pumpkin Juice among the Three Broomsticks; one bottle holds exactly one pint.
"Just enough to fill it up," Kyle said. "I'll come back for more in a bit, and if it's not enough, I'll have to get it myself."
"How is it? No problem, right?"
The old spider remained silent, clearly furious. Over a hundred pints of venom... did this little wizard mistake them for pumpkins?
But venom isn't like Pumpkin Juice, you can't just squeeze it out!
But feeling the rising temperature around it and the indifferent eyes of a pair of people not far away, it dared not speak out in anger.
Dragon are the creatures they fear most, second only to Basilisk, especially in the Forbidden Forest where trees abound. A single burst of dragon flame can leave them with no chance to escape.
"I promise you!" the old spider said bitterly.
"A wise choice." Kyle stood up. "Don't be angry, I'm doing this for your own good."
"Let me put it this way, Professor Dumbledore in the castle isn't very magnanimous. If you harm any of the students, you're all dead, and Hagrid can't save you."
Kyle patted Aragog's large claw and walked past it. Norbert closed his mouth with some regret, seemingly quite interested in these large pieces of snacks and wanting to taste them.
Newt, who was behind him, smiled and shook his head, then closed the suitcase and followed.
