Ambush, Death Eaters, and Dragons

On the last day of July, after a fruitless morning, Kyle and Cedric discussed it and decided to temporarily end their mission of hunting Dementors outside.

The main reason was that ever since the Daily Prophet had published the bounty notice, more than half of the Dementors wandering around had suddenly vanished.

Of course, that did not mean they had all been exchanged for Galleons... A hundred Galleons was certainly tempting, but there were not many wizards capable of killing Dementors, and it could not have happened so quickly.

Kyle guessed that most of the missing Dementors had probably gone into hiding. After all, the Death Eaters read newspapers too.

Now, Dementors had gone from being a disaster everyone feared to fragrant little piles of gold Galleons. Naturally, Voldemort could not simply watch his capable assistants get divided up and taken away.

But this was good too. At least they no longer had to worry about Muggles getting caught up in it.

And once the Dementors had hidden themselves, it would be easier to catch them all in one sweep. The only problem now was finding their exact location.

But that was something Dumbledore needed to worry about.

After making their decision, Kyle and Cedric prepared to head back. Before that, however, they still needed to check the final address in the booklet.

This address had only appeared a few minutes ago. Clearly, someone had spotted a Dementor and reported it to the Ministry of Magic.

They had been busy for days already, so one more stop would not make much difference.

"Do you think someone might get there before us again?" Cedric asked.
