London.
St Mungo's.
Cedric's injuries were not serious. A young Healer hurried into the ward, gripped his leg and gave it a sharp twist, then swiftly wrapped two loops of bandage around it.
"All done. Drink another bottle of potion later, and the bone will have healed by tomorrow."
With that, he hurried out of the ward again. By then, Kyle had only just unwrapped his Chocolate Frog. The entire process had taken less than a minute.
"I told you, there was no need to come to St Mungo's at all," Cedric said helplessly.
"It's better to be cautious," Mr Diggory said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Leave the task of hunting Dementors to the Aurors from now on. You stay at the Ministry of Magic."
"Dad, I'm fine," Cedric said. "I only got hurt this time because I lacked experience."
"No."
"Capturing Dementors is mainly the responsibility of the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, not the Aurors."
"Then I'll go," Mr Diggory insisted. His meaning was simple: he would not allow Cedric to take any more risks.
When he had received Cedric's message asking for help earlier, he had felt as if the sky were falling. He had nearly fainted right there in his office.
"But..." Cedric still wanted to say something.
"Just listen to Mr Diggory," Kyle interrupted. "There are fewer and fewer Dementors now. There's no need for us to deliberately hunt them down anymore."
"Besides, weren't you thinking of taking some time off? This works out perfectly. And forget three days—how about a week? You can recover properly during that time."
"Wonderful!" Mr Diggory said happily. "Thank you so much, Kyle. And this time too, if not for you saving Ced—"
"It was nothing. We were acting together, after all," Kyle said.
