The Loophole in Name Magic

Dumbledore's voice remained even, sounding as though he were merely saying he'd lost a Knut while shopping, yet the news caused an uproar in Kyle's heart.

"The one that was taken... couldn't have been the Elder Wand, could it?"

"Oh, I didn't expect you to recognize it as the Elder Wand." Dumbledore looked at Kyle in surprise. "How remarkable. I always thought no one knew."

"Is it really that hard? Any wizard who's read The Tales of Beedle the Bard should be able to recognize it. The illustration makes it quite clear."

"But elder wands all look the same. That is a characteristic of the wood itself." Dumbledore said, seemingly not the least bit concerned that his possession had been stolen. Instead, he discussed wand designs with Kyle in great interest.

"That's true enough," Kyle said casually. "But I've never seen anyone else use an elder wand, not even at Ollivanders. I even suspect he doesn't use that kind of wood at all.

"And more importantly, that wand was being held by the greatest white wizard of the age."

"That truly is an extraordinary compliment." Dumbledore chuckled, looking almost a little embarrassed.

"Yes, I had indeed always used the Elder Wand." Dumbledore nodded. "But Tom has taken it now. Someone told Tom that the Elder Wand could make him more powerful, so he arranged this trap."

"And then he just took the Elder Wand?" Kyle still found it hard to believe.

How should he put it? It had been too easy.

It was now certain that Death Eaters like Bellatrix and Barty Crouch Jr. were all here and had not left with Voldemort.

Even if Voldemort had set a trap, could he really defeat Dumbledore one-on-one and take his wand?
