Background / History

Kanna is the last direct descendant of the Prince family, an old pure-blood line. Her father was killed by Death Eaters after drunkenly saying Voldemort's name; Kanna and her mother survived because they were away from home. Her mother later died in an accident, leaving Kanna alone and making the remaining Prince inheritance a target for relatives and other pure-blood families. 112

Her pet rat, Pochi, was actually Ratri—her great-aunt and an Animagus. Ratri had infiltrated Kanna's life to steal the key to the Prince family Gringotts vault, which only a direct descendant could open. She encouraged Kanna's financial hardship in hopes that Kanna would leave Hogwarts and return home for the key. 106 112

Kanna first met Kyle Chopper aboard the Hogwarts Express while seeking a tonic for Pochi.
