Sirius froze for a moment, then was overjoyed. He turned to run at once.
"Then we need to leave too. There are too many of them. It'll be trouble if they catch up."
But Sirius quickly realized that Kyle had not followed. He was still standing where he was.
"Hurry up, what are you waiting for?" he shouted anxiously. "They'll be here any moment."
As he spoke, a mass of black mist had already appeared nearby. Sirius was so anxious he nearly rushed back to drag Kyle away.
"Leave? No, that won't do."
Kyle curled his lip. "I hold grudges. They chased me around for so long just now—if I don't get revenge, I won't be able to sleep tonight."
"What nonsense are you talking about? Right now—"
"Fawkes, I'll leave him to you."
With a clear cry, Sirius vanished from where he stood.
At the same time, Bellatrix arrived with the Death Eaters in pursuit.
"Clap, clap, clap..." She applauded, her voice dripping with mockery. "How noble. You gave someone else the chance to escape while choosing to stay behind yourself. I'm almost moved."
"Really?" Kyle said with a smile. "Then how about you let me go too? I promise I'll turn around and leave immediately, not linger for even a second. What do you say?"
As though they had heard a hilarious joke, all the Death Eaters burst into laughter.
"Let you go?"
"Do you think you're still in a pram at Hogwarts?"
"We'll torture you with the Cruciatus Curse until you regret not leaving on your own."
The Death Eaters laughed at Kyle and kept threatening him with their words... though perhaps it could not really be called threats, but advance notice.
