In the forest, Kyle swiftly flicked his wand behind him, but his target was not Vinda Rosier and the others pursuing him. It was the thick trees around them.
If he first used the Softening Charm to knock the trees down across the path, then turned them to stone, he could create a sturdier barrier—enough to delay his pursuers for... a few seconds.
Kyle had originally thought his opponents were all elderly men and women in their seventies or eighties, people who probably struggled just to walk. Shaking them off should have been easy. But he quickly realized how horribly wrong he was.
They did not need to run at all. They simply flew through the air like ghosts. As long as they had enough magic, age was no issue whatsoever.
Honestly, this was one of the most grueling fights Kyle had experienced in years. He could barely mount an effective counterattack.
More importantly, these people's combat awareness was on an entirely different level from the Death Eaters he had encountered before. Their reactions were far too quick.
Kyle had used every trick he could think of, yet he still could not gain the upper hand. Aside from taking out two of them with his initial ambush, he had also set a trap with a Nundu and lured them into it.
It had indeed worked. Unfamiliar with Kyle's methods, the fastest-running wizard had been unable to react in time and charged straight into the poisonous mist, dropping unconscious on the spot... but that was all.
The others had not hesitated for even a second. The moment they noticed something was wrong with their companion, they immediately changed positions and split apart to either side. The person at the rear voluntarily cast a Bubble-Head Charm and rushed into the
