Though Nurmengard looked enormous from the outside, like the vampire castles built into cliffs described in Muggle storybooks, once inside, one realized there was barely any space at all.
Even the entrance at the bottom was only about the size of an ordinary classroom, with a staircase taking up a third of it. Higher up, it became even smaller. Grindelwald's only companion seemed to be that bare, thin blanket.
It was clear there had once been a bedsheet, but it had already been torn to pieces.
Kyle hesitated for a long time. Perhaps Grindelwald's current state was simply too pitiful to look at, but he ultimately took out several sheets of parchment and placed them on the ground. After thinking for a moment, he took out a bottle of ink as well.
"You probably need this too."
There was no way a place that used bedsheets in place of letter paper would have any ink. When Grindelwald said he wanted to write a letter, he would most likely have smeared blood onto the sheet.
As for how he planned to send the letter out, Kyle did not know, nor did he want to know.
"Ah-ha, thank you," Grindelwald said with a grin.
"You're welcome." Kyle paused. "If you do anything unnecessary..."
"Will you kill me?" Grindelwald seemed to have heard an amusing joke and chuckled. "I've heard that line many times... Different people, at different times, have all said the same thing to me.
"But you're the bravest one. Those before you didn't even dare stay in front of me for more than a minute, even when I didn't have a wand."
"No, you misunderstand. I won't try to kill you." Kyle shook his head.
Apparently not expecting that answer, Grindelwald shifted slightly. "So you plan to let me go?"
