Late at night, faint cries drifted through Ottery St. Catchpole. They seemed to be coming from The Burrow, but whenever one listened closely, they vanished again.
Probably the Ghoul in the attic, Kyle thought, paying it no mind.
An ancient Ghoul lived in The Burrow's attic. Its name sounded rather intimidating, but it was actually only an XX-level magical creature, on the same level as a Bowtruckle, feeding on Bundimuns and moths.
Bowtruckles at least had sharp fingers, but a Ghoul's most dangerous weapon was probably its name.
It might scare young wizards who did not know any better.
If one did not mind their creepy appearance, keeping one as a pet in an attic or barn was not a bad idea.
At any rate, the Weasleys got along quite well with their Ghoul.
Ignoring the sounds outside, Kyle shut the window and went to sleep.
At midnight, it began to rain.
Every light in the village went out. The moon hid behind dark clouds, and even the occasional sliver of light was veiled by the steadily falling rain.
Behind Kyle's house stood a small, not particularly tall hill. Beyond it, after walking a little farther, was Lovegood's windmill house.
Since this was a relatively remote part of Ottery St. Catchpole, few people came here under normal circumstances.
At that moment, a black shadow flashed across the hilltop, heading straight for The Burrow. But the next second, it abruptly stopped.
Two bright violet lights suddenly appeared before him, like two precious purple gemstones glittering beneath the hazy moonlight. They also seemed like beacons in the night, making one instinctively want to approach.
The black shadow was drawn in. He unconsciously started walking in one direction, showing no intention of stopping even when he reached the edge of the hilltop.
