Background / History
Yu Xiao Gang served as the “Master” of Nuoding Primary Soul Master Academy and was a friend of its dean. When Su Ming and Tang San arrived to enroll, he disregarded Su Ming after seeing his Innate Soul Power level 6, but immediately focused on Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power. He took Tang San away for a private conversation while ordering Su Ming to complete registration alone. 4
He became Tang San’s master, but his reputation as a martial soul theorist later came under direct attack from Su Ming. Su Ming accused him of relying on Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and Martial Soul Hall records for his theories, while pointing to Yu Xiao Gang’s own stalled cultivation and failed mutation as contradictions to his principle that “there are no useless Martial Souls.” 41
Yu Xiao Gang sought Su Ming’s help after learning that Su Ming could guide martial soul evolution. Su Ming refused to assist him for free and demanded that Yu Xiao Gang bring his father, Yu Yuanzhen, to negotiate. 42
After returning to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Xiao Gang summoned Luo Sanpao for Su Ming’s examination. Su Ming identified the sentient martial soul as a “god-tier Martial Soul prototype,” stating that it had failed to evolve from a Radiant Sacred Dragon omen at awakening. However, Su Ming also judged Yu Xiao Gang’s first two Soul Rings to have been poorly chosen and irreparable losses. 44 45
Yu Yuanzhen ultimately chose an evolution path centered on Light-attribute Soul Beasts and the possibility that Yu Xiao Gang’s descendants could awaken the Radiant Sacred Dragon. Yu Xiao Gang was compelled to follow this plan despite preferring a route that could maximize his own future strength. 47 49
Appearance
Yu Xiao Gang was initially a white-haired middle-aged man whose martial soul’s failed mutation had left him visibly aged. After breaking through level 30 and absorbing a Light-attribute Soul Bone, he regained a younger appearance resembling a man in his thirties or forties. 44 56
- Initially appeared with a full head of white hair. 44
- Was considered handsome after his cultivation breakthrough restored his youthfulness. 56
- His martial soul, Luo Sanpao, initially resembled a plump purple pig-like creature with drooping ears, deep-blue eyes, short legs, and undeveloped horn-like bumps. 44
Personality
Yu Xiao Gang is driven by insecurity over his failed martial soul mutation, low Innate Soul Power, and decades-long inability to pass level 29. His desire to become a Titled Douluo and reclaim recognition repeatedly shapes his decisions. 41 43
He initially treats Su Ming dismissively while showing immediate interest in Tang San’s Innate Full Soul Power, suggesting that he judges potential primarily through talent and usefulness. 4
During Su Ming’s public dismantling of his theories and past conduct, Yu Xiao Gang suppresses his anger because he still needs Su Ming’s evolution guidance. Internally, he vows to make those who looked down on him “pay the price” if he ever becomes a Titled Douluo. 41 43
Abilities & Skills
Luo Sanpao
Yu Xiao Gang possesses Luo Sanpao, a rare sentient martial soul born from the failed mutation of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon bloodline. Su Ming identifies it as a prototype with the potential to develop toward a Radiant Sacred Dragon. 44 45
- Can understand and obey Yu Xiao Gang’s commands. 44
- Initially manifested as a pig-like creature rather than a complete dragon. 44
- Its sentience and undeveloped dragon horns were treated by Su Ming as signs of unusually high bloodline potential. 44 45
- Su Ming later described Luo Sanpao as having successfully evolved “into a dragon.” 73
Light-Attribute Evolution
Yu Xiao Gang’s eventual evolution route required Light-attribute Soul Rings and Soul Bones, rather than the rings he had selected earlier in life. 45 47
- His first documented Soul Ring was a 320-year-old Unicorn Dragon Soul Beast; Su Ming considered the early Soul Ring choices wasted for the Radiant Sacred Dragon path. 45
- His third Soul Ring came from a 1,300-year-old Radiant Deer. 55
- After absorbing the Radiant Deer ring, Luo Sanpao increased from roughly one meter to three meters long and developed dragon horns and dragon claws. 55
- A 30,000-year Light-attribute Soul Bone further raised his Soul Power to level 38. 56
Relationships
- Tang San — Disciple. Yu Xiao Gang singled Tang San out at Nuoding Academy because of his Innate Full Soul Power and Blue Silver Grass martial soul; Tang San initially defended him fiercely, but later lost respect for him and left with Tang Hao. 4 41 43
- Yu Yuanzhen — Father and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan Sect Master. Yu Yuanzhen negotiated with Su Ming for his son’s evolution method, then imposed the third evolution plan for the clan’s future. 44 47 49
- Su Ming — Adversary and reluctant evolution adviser. Su Ming exposed Yu Xiao Gang’s shortcomings, refused to help without payment, and provided the analysis that enabled Luo Sanpao’s evolution. 41 42 44
- Flender — Member of the Golden Iron Triangle. Flender continued asking Su Ming to assist Yu Xiao Gang despite Su Ming’s accusations against him. 41
- Liu Erlong — Member of the Golden Iron Triangle and Yu Xiao Gang’s former intended bride. Su Ming accused Yu Xiao Gang of exploiting her affection and concealing their family connection; Liu Erlong fled the confrontation in anger. 41 42
- Bibi Dong — Described as Yu Xiao Gang’s old lover in Su Ming’s private thoughts; she later dispatched spies after learning that his martial soul had evolved. 56 73
- Clan-selected spouses — Yu Yuanzhen arranged for four Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon bloodline descendants to marry Yu Xiao Gang in hopes of producing children capable of awakening the Radiant Sacred Dragon. 49
