Jiang Che's rapid rise immediately drew Shen's suspicion. After learning that Jiang had cleared the thirty-third floor of the Demon-Suppressing Tower at the ninth level of the True Person Realm, Shen ordered a comprehensive investigation into Jiang's background, movements, associates, and cultivation methods 259. Shen later used Ye Wuchen's authority to take Jiang's Taiyi Soul-Nourishing Pill from the Alchemy Hall, offering sect points as nominal interest without Jiang's consent 319.

Secret Realm Survival

Within the secret realm, Shen and Shi Kong confronted the injured Jiang Che and Yan Juque. Shen considered killing both men and seizing their Purple Gold True Core, but abandoned the plan after judging the risks too high 343.

He then followed Shi Kong intending to ambush him for the core, only to witness Shi Kong's death at the hands of the True Mother Cult's Left Protector. Shen escaped by using a True Essence Bomb and sought safety among a group of righteous-sect cultivators 343 346.

Duel with Jiang Che

Jiang Che publicly declared his intent to challenge a True Disciple of another peak, provoking Shen into accepting the challenge 336. Their conflict escalated when Shen attempted to seize Jiang's Taiyi Soul-Nourishing Pills, leading Jiang to set a Martial Arts Arena duel with the pills as the wager 349.

Shen began the duel with the advantage of a late Third Stage cultivation base and activated the Heaven-Slashing Sword Domain after Jiang knocked Frost from his hand. Jiang ultimately overwhelmed him, and Ye Wuchen intervened before Jiang could deliver a finishing blow 350 351 352.

Jiang's victory replaced Shen as the Third True Disciple and demoted Shen to Fourth True Disciple 352.

Defection and Death

Unable to accept Jiang's continued growth, Shen concluded that Jiang must be a Great Yan Kingdom agent. Before he could report this claim, Suying—revealed as the True Mother Cult's Right Protector—captured him and offered him vengeance 375.
