In the center of Mystic Sword City stands a skyscraper named Xuanyue Tower.
Ever since the Mystic Moon Pavilion made a name for itself and opened branches all across the Central Continent, many factions have taken to adding the character "Moon" to their names.
Yet, to this day, only the Pure Moon Flying Sword has achieved any real success.
Xuanyue Tower is one such follower. Unlike some of the smaller, fly-by-night operations, it possesses a mysterious background and deep pockets, allowing it to remain open despite being in a constant state of financial loss.
However, no one knows that Xuanyue Tower was actually founded by a group of Old Devils from the demonic path. The business on the surface is entirely irrelevant; the only thing that truly matters is the artificial cultivation of divine souls.
This place is a base for cultivating those artificial souls.
For a city where the highest level of cultivators are only at the Spirit Transmutation stage, it was the perfect location. Even if an occasional Void Return or Dao Integration cultivator came by for an inspection, a bit of advance preparation was enough to deceive them.
But that is no longer the case. First, an ancient cultivator emerged from seclusion, and then some unknown pauper started refining a Ten Thousand Soul Banner.
A series of incidents has suddenly thrust this small city on the edge of the map into the spotlight.
The Old Devils with higher cultivation levels sensed something was wrong and fled overnight, while those who remained either never got the news or simply had no way to escape.
Dozens of meters beneath the skyscraper lies a sprawling laboratory.
However, all the equipment inside has been cleared out, leaving the space completely empty.
"These demonic brats actually built such a massive underground lab? Is the mayor an idiot?"
Behind a massive pillar, a figure muttered to herself.
She is a girl who radiates vitality at a single glance, with her hair tied into a simple high ponytail and delicate features. Her black-and-white eyes are bright and clear. She wears a white T-shirt and black cargo pants.
Once I become the Sect Master, I'm definitely firing him!
Her name is Chi Jiuyu, a third-generation disciple of the Sword Sect, and her goal is to become the next Sword Sect Master.
She had just arrived in Mystic Sword City today. While searching for her martial uncle, she discovered a few people with strange auras carrying a large amount of demonic beast essence blood.
As the future Sect Master, she felt it was her duty to maintain order in the cities under the Sword Sect's jurisdiction!
And so, she had quietly followed them here.
A dark, secretive basement and a massive amount of demonic beast essence blood—this was undeniably the work of the demonic path!
Ding-dong!
The phone in her pocket suddenly chimed, giving Chi Jiuyu a start.
She hurriedly pulled out her phone and, ignoring the notification, immediately switched it to silent mode.
Phew.
Only then did she begin to check the message.
"Have you found your martial uncle yet?"
The sender's nickname was 'My Most Respected Master', and the profile picture was a little yellow duck holding a sword with the word 'Invincible' written on its forehead, looking rather silly.
"Not yet," Chi Jiuyu replied.
Mystic Sword City isn't exactly small; where was she supposed to look?
Besides, if her martial uncle didn't want to be found, there was no way she could ever track him down.
"Find him as soon as possible. Your martial uncle is a very generous man, especially right after he comes out of seclusion."
"Got it, got it!"
After sending that reply, she tucked her phone away and continued to sneak deeper inside. Forget about the martial uncle—dismantling this den was the top priority!
Chi Jiuyu carefully navigated through room after room. The strange liquid residue on the floor and the faint scent of blood made her more certain than ever that this was a den for demonic practitioners!
Passing through a few more rooms, she arrived at an equipment storage area filled with several broken, bizarre devices, where she faintly heard voices.
"Young Master, how much longer do we have to stay here?"
"Soon. That senior's injuries are almost fully healed."
Young Master? Senior?
A big fish, indeed!
A faint golden light flickered in Chi Jiuyu's eyes as she probed the cultivation levels of the two men through the wall.
Nascent Soul early stage. Nascent Soul early stage.
Assessment complete: two small fries. She had never feared anyone at her own level!
She just didn't know what level the "senior" they spoke of was. If it were Spirit Transmutation, she could put up a fight, but a Void Return cultivator would be troublesome.
Just as she was thinking this:
"The younger generation truly lacks thoroughness. To think a little mouse has managed to sneak in."
The cold, hard voice was incredibly raspy. The golden light in Chi Jiuyu's eyes dimmed. Beyond that grating voice, she also heard the rustling sound of insects crawling.
She turned back. In the dark, lightless equipment room stood a vague, hazy shadow of black demonic energy.
"Holy crap!"
I'm done for. I've run into a shark. It's actually a Dao Integration Old Devil!
The two people in the inner room also sensed something was wrong and ran out.
"Young Master, it seems we've been followed."
The young man wearing sunglasses glared fiercely at his subordinate. As if I didn't know that, you idiot!
He cupped his hands toward the demonic shadow.
"My apologies, Senior. It was my oversight."
He then turned to Chi Jiuyu and demanded viciously, "Speak! Which faction are you from, and why did you follow us here?"
"Naturally, it is because my heart of justice sensed the scent of evil!" Chi Jiuyu declared righteously.
What the hell kind of 'scent of evil' is that!
The two men nearly lost their composure. You are standing in front of a Dao Integration Old Devil! Can't you be a little more nervous?!
"This person has cultivated the Great Void Truth-Breaking Golden Pupils; your petty concealment techniques could never deceive her," the Dao Integration Old Devil explained.
The Great Void Truth-Breaking Golden Pupils—a ocular art from the Sword Sect's supreme legacy, the Great Void Sword Canon.
Someone from the Sword Sect?
"To have reached such a realm at such a young age, and to have mastered this ocular art... in time, you might even surpass this old man," the Dao Integration Old Devil said indifferently.
"Pfft!" Chi Jiuyu scoffed. "You really think highly of yourself."
She... she... is she always this arrogant?!
The Young Master and his subordinate were both stunned.
Look closely! Standing in front of you is a Dao Integration stage Old Devil!
Hearing this, the Dao Integration Old Devil paused for a moment before saying calmly, "Strength only matters in the future. Do you truly believe you have a future?"
Rolling demonic energy surged, filling most of the equipment room, and it looked as though Chi Jiuyu was about to be swallowed whole.
No matter how powerful a Nascent Soul cultivator might be, they are but an ant in the face of a Dao Integration practitioner.
Chi Jiuyu's vision blurred, but she suddenly shouted at the top of her lungs.
"Master, save me!!!"
Hum!
A grand, resonant hum echoed in the ears of the Young Master, his subordinate, and the Dao Integration Old Devil.
Everything before their eyes began to vanish rapidly; their perspectives seemed to be elevated infinitely as the profound truths of the Great Dao flowed before them. Many of their cultivation bottlenecks were resolved in that single instant.
The Dao Integration Old Devil even felt his own realm loosening, yet there was not a shred of joy in his heart.
A nearly transparent, pale red phantom stepped forward, possessing an otherworldly, peerless grace.
As her gaze fell, the Dao Integration Old Devil froze. The reason was that her eyes were not indifferent or emotionless; on the contrary, they held an incredibly rich spectrum of emotions.
How is this possible?
"Bullying my disciple—you deserve to be executed."
Executed!
The words sounded like a decree from heaven and earth, and infinite terror surged within the Dao Integration Old Devil's heart.
"No!!!"
Amidst a roar filled with despair, terrifying demonic energy erupted into the sky. The sheer power of a Dao Integration practitioner's full-force outburst was horrifying.
Under normal circumstances, a few lowly Nascent Soul cultivators would have been unable to withstand it, but the rising demonic energy seemed to be isolated in another dimension, having absolutely no effect.
Chi Jiuyu watched as the withered old man before her let out a desperate roar, only to dissipate into purple, sand-like particles of light. She couldn't help but smack her lips.
It's always like this. What on earth are they seeing?
With the death of the Dao Integration Old Devil, the Young Master and his subordinate regained their senses. They had not been killed.
If one cannot even defeat an opponent of the same realm, then dying is only to be expected.
Coincidentally, that was exactly what Chi Jiuyu thought as she drew a long sword.
"Come at me together!"
Who the hell wants to fight you!
The two men finally understood why the Old Devil in this base had run away so quickly.
"So, you are the disciple of my Senior Sister?"
A figure appeared out of thin air where the Old Devil had dissipated. It was none other than Xu Xing, who had just been in the office of the Dean of Students at Xuanjian City No. 3 Middle School.
