Background and History
Huang Jutao is the patriarch of the Wangjiang Huang Clan and, initially, its only Foundation Establishment cultivator. After Huang Tian’s spiritual aptitude test shatters multiple testing crystals, Jutao takes him as a personal disciple but keeps the arrangement secret. He arranges a plausible test result so Huang Tian can study at the clan school without attracting attention, then supplies him with cultivation texts, a storage pouch, and pills 375 376.
Jutao also invests heavily in young clan leader Huang Xuanlang’s attempt at Foundation Establishment. Despite suspecting that an auctioned pill may be bait, he travels to Woodvoid Market to obtain a breakthrough aid. Three Foundation Establishment cultivators ambush him; he escapes to Wangjiang City injured and activates its protective formation. When Huang Tian later kills the attackers, Jutao insists that the disciple’s involvement remain hidden 377 378 380.
As the Gilded Metal Sect’s war brings a demand for Huang Clan cultivators, Jutao protects Xuanlang from conscription by citing his seclusion for a breakthrough and negotiates a contribution of artifacts instead. He continues to guard Huang Tian’s identity as increasingly powerful sects investigate events around Wangjiang 381 389 392.
Following Huang Tian’s transformation of the world, Jutao reaches Violet Palace and the Huang Clan prospers. He later considers settling younger clan members on the Gilded Metal Sect’s former spirit land while preserving Wangjiang City as the clan’s ancestral seat. When Huang Tian visits to say farewell, Jutao respects his decision to leave and shares a final cup of tea with him 404 405.
Appearance
Jutao is seen in a long black robe and jade crown when teaching Huang Tian; at his Violet Palace celebration, he again wears black robes 376 404.
- Has slightly clouded eyes and a beard that he often strokes 380 392.
- His aura is described as deep and steady after his Violet Palace advancement 404.
Personality
Jutao is protective but politically cautious. He risks an ambush to improve Xuanlang’s breakthrough prospects, yet urges Xuanlang not to attempt Foundation Establishment while emotionally unsettled. He offers Huang Tian resources and defensive talismans, while repeatedly warning that exposing the disciple’s talent could endanger the entire clan 377 378 380 384.
He conceals his anger when the Gilded Metal Sect demands clan members for war and negotiates within the limits of the Huang Clan’s strength. Even after Huang Tian’s rise benefits the clan, Jutao favors discretion over immediate territorial gain 380 381 400.
Abilities & Skills
Zhen Water Cultivation
- His Water Virtue cultivation makes him especially adept at moving stealthily through water; spells from other Dao Paths are comparatively weak in his hands 382.
