Background / History
At age 46, Netero believed that his body and mind had reached humanity’s absolute limit. In gratitude for martial arts, he began performing ten thousand straight punches daily on a mountain; his first set took eighteen hours, but his time steadily fell through continued practice. This discipline became the basis of his “Prayer of Gratitude” and carried him to the pinnacle of Enhancement. 62 321
Netero later founded Shingen-ryu, became Chairman of the Hunter Association, and assembled the Zodiacs as sparring partners. Although publicly known as the world’s strongest human, his early life is characterized as a pure, single-minded pursuit of martial mastery. 62
During his prime, Netero entered the Dark Continent with Linne and Jager in search of Triple Water. The expedition was driven into a desperate situation, and he survived only because Jager prayed to an unknown existence. 159 296
As Chairman, Netero recognized that excessive concentration of authority weakened the Hunter Association’s adaptability, oversight, and decision-making. He considered building a new team of exceptional Hunters to help manage the organization, a plan connected to the eventual formation of the Zodiacs. 117 133
Appearance
Netero is an elderly man with a peaceful, Buddha-like bearing, though his relaxed posture conceals immense martial ability. 296 305
- White hair, white beard, and white eyebrows, often with his hair tied into a topknot or braid. 62 305
- Long, Buddha-like ears and a serene facial expression. 296
- Commonly wears loose martial-arts robes; he changes into athletic clothing when sparring. 296 305
- Despite his advanced age, retains a robust physique and formidable Blood Qi, though his vitality is visibly waning. 298 317 347
Personality
Netero is playful, competitive, and fond of testing promising people. He races Roy along a riverbank, repeatedly seeks sparring opportunities, and follows Kurapika through multiple forms of transport simply to observe the boy’s composure and deception. 132 296 347
Behind his teasing demeanor, he is perceptive and reflective. He recognizes structural flaws in the Hunter Association, respects Hunters who pursue non-combat dreams, and shows particular concern over the burden carried by those with exceptional Nen. 117 125 317
Age has made him increasingly conscious of mortality and succession. Netero admits that he can no longer sustain the Thousand-Armed Guanyin of his ideal, worries about being left behind by younger generations, and expresses a wish to be revived when the time comes. 300 346 347
Abilities & Skills

100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva
Netero manifests the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, a massive Guanyin figure whose hundred arms can assume different forms and attack from numerous angles. 299 300
- The Bodhisattva’s arms can form fists, palms, finger gestures, downward strikes, and horizontal blows. 300
- A single arm can be partially manifested for attacks, including during Netero’s volleyball sparring with Zeno. 305
- The manifestation reflects Netero’s Buddhist imagery and martial realization. 299 300
- Netero knows the ideal form is Thousand-Armed Guanyin, but admits that his current strength and aging body cannot support it. 300
Heart-Drop Fist-Listen
Heart-Drop Fist-Listen is a state of heightened martial perception that Netero can activate at will. 298
- Greatly sharpens his senses, allowing him to perceive dense Blood Qi, Nen, and physical condition. 298
- Subjectively slows his perception of time, improving reaction speed without actually altering time. 298
