Related Las Weapons
- Hecate-pattern Laser Carbine — costs 230 Imperial Coins apiece. Two purchased by the Crimson Spirit chapter participate in the convoy’s defense against Tzeentch Horrors 47.
- Lucius Pattern Laspistol — a separate, short-range weapon costing 80 Imperial Coins. Its energy-cell-fed shots can burn through light armor at close quarters 24.
- Heavy Lasguns — included among Crimson Dawn’s 142 heavy-support weapons alongside modified stubbers 73.
Abilities & Limitations
Thermal Damage
Lasgun fire burns targets rather than relying solely on projectile impact 33 84.
- Alru infantry’s laser beams burn through daemonic skin during the refinery battle 33.
- Gang defenders’ laser fire penetrates the players’ crude armor and flesh during the Merida assault 84.
- A grazing lasgun hit leaves Tax Brother’s arm armor scorched and causes a slight skin burn 84.
Concentrated Fire
Repeated hits and coordinated volleys allow laser weapons to overcome targets that resist individual attacks 47 84.
- Against Tzeentch Horrors, the players combine rifles, pistols, and carbines into a net of laser fire. Three consecutive laser hits collapse one Horror’s phase-shifting ability, allowing a 20 mm round to strike its solidified body 47.
- Merida’s radiation mutants are difficult to kill unless lasguns repeatedly strike the same location. Players also coordinate attacks against joints and eyes 84.
- Three simultaneous laser shots to the head bring down the last Razor Dog during the mine-pit battle 63.
Armor-Penetration Limits
Lasguns remain inadequate against some heavily protected targets 51 114.
- Laser fire wounds the Razor Dog pack leader but fails to penetrate its crystal armor 51.
- Lasgun shots leave only shallow white marks on Mechanicus battle-servitor armor. Tax Brother orders the players to switch to rocket launchers rather than continue a frontal lasgun engagement 114.
Production & Modification
| Chapter | Development | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| 38 | The system shop adds more laser-weapon models. | Expands the players’ equipment choices alongside new armor, engineering equipment, and supplies. |
| 60 | Wang Zhong asks Oil-Guy to develop locally producible weapons and ammunition. | Intended to reduce dependence on expensive shop purchases. |
| 65 | Crimson Machine reverse-engineers principles from shop weapons. | Produces usable homemade energy weapons, although material and energy constraints prevent perfect replication. |
| 90 | Oil-Guy uses a minute psionic formula to optimize a laser gun’s energy circuit. | Increases output by 7%; each gun requires two hours of work, and only Oil-Guy currently has the expertise to perform it. |
| 92 | Crimson Dawn establishes its first lasgun production line. | Initial output is ten guns per day. |
Service History
Early Player Adoption
Tax Brother first demands a lasgun after seeing the beginner shop’s crude black-powder pistol, saying that even a Lucius Pattern would be preferable. Schrodinger’s Loyalist later purchases a Kant-pattern rifle before the refinery uprising 7 24.
During the uprising, Wang Zhong calculates that the prospective salvage proceeds could fund lasguns, ballistic armor, and basic physical enhancements for the players. Fallen Alru soldiers subsequently become a source of recoverable laser rifles and other equipment 26 34.
Crimson Dawn Deployment
| Event | Lasgun Deployment |
|---|---|
| Mine-pit battle | Wang Zhong personally carries a lasgun and fires the opening shot against the emerging beast pack 62. |
| Pre-town campaign assessment | Las weapons reach an 83% penetration rate across Crimson Dawn’s equipment loadout 73. |
| Merida Town assault | Tax Brother’s 2,300-player force fields 1,700 lasguns, supported by 52 heavy machine guns and 80 rocket launchers 83. |
| First Iron Hands contact | Three hundred players assemble with lasguns slung over their backs and hands lowered to avoid provoking the visiting Astartes 102. |
| Iron Hands inspection | Lasguns occupy the first row of Crimson Dawn’s warehouse weapon racks. The inspection finds no Warp contamination in the armory 104. |
| Inventory report to Ferrus Manus | Kalon Santos reports 5,722 lasguns among Crimson Dawn’s weapons, describing the arsenal as battlefield-recovered or locally manufactured 105. |
Local Gang Arsenals
- Merida Town — its defenders possess no more than approximately 800 old lasguns, substantially fewer than the attacking players 83.
- Iron Claw Gang — more than 1,500 of its 3,700-plus members carry standard-issue laser weapons. Most are old stock that escaped the Black Royal Family armories during the Iron Hands’ purge eighty years earlier 86.
- Bonecrusher Magnus — carries an unusually powerful royal-armory lasgun while rallying his core followers against Wang Zhong 87.
